Fergie has always been told that when a world class player becomes available, the Glazers will give him the money. Well. I would suggest Shevchenko is a World class player (though he is nearly 30) Just because Chelsea have Shevchenko that doesn't mean they will be unbeatable, look at what everyone thought about Real Madrid when they got "the Galactico's" together. Shevchenko may not be suited to the Premiership, Crespo didn't set the league on fire and he came from Serie A.
Thats why we have the matches.
On another topic, Fergie's recent decisions have been concerning me. The way he sacked Keano midseason, the handling of RVN (unless the rumours about what he said to Ronaldo about his father were true) and now the sacking of Mike Stone for "extra work outside club interests" translated as "helping Wayne Rooney play for England".
But also largely the way he's handled the team for the past couple of years, from trying to convert one of the best DMF's in the World (Kleberson) to an attacking role, and then selling him because "he can't shoot very well" to Eric Djemba-Djemba, David Bellion, Liam Miller etc.
Okay he also brought in Heinze, Rooney, Ronaldo, Vidic, Smithy and VDS in that period. Also it seems that theres this whole thing of "I'm the absolute boss and what I say goes" about recent events.
United have need of desperate changes as some of the players in our squad are not the quality Manchester United needs to be sucessful. The midfield needs at least two major additions IMO. Also I really feel that United are not the power we once were and this needs to be urgently addressed. We don't have a "devine right" to success, but we do expect that Manchester United should always be challenging for honours home and in Europe (and being eliminated at the group stage is unacceptable)
We can't compete with Abramovich's chequebook - nor should we. But we should be trying to recruit players that will add to the team and not feed of the crumbs. United's full power XI is among the best in the World - but the squad is severely lacking.
