Ole, the perfect player and gentleman, never complained and did his job more then well, he scored a lot of (important) goals for us and he wasn't even a starter, he was a true talent, scoring goals for him was easy as he showed it through out his career, we will never forget you Ole, a very sad day and a shame that he has to end his career because of his ongoing injuries, but I am happy that he will remain at the club, we all thank you Ole aka 'babyfaced assassin'

And I think that it is a very good idea to retire the squad number 20, I think they will

United should organise a game in his honour, maybe a friendly against Norway's NT or Molde? Also I think they should consider retiring the #20 shirt. Ole is an absolute legend for United and I hope he stays with the club in some capacity.

Also Ole was/is a model professional, never moaned or demanded more money and stayed loyal to the club over 11 years whilst never really establishing a run in the starting lineup.

From a United fan I say "Thank you Ole"

Because of my lack off finding the right words right now,I'll keep it simple and just quote MikeyM
Good words and i agree 100% that the #20 number will be retired like the great man who had it for 11 years and made it the "20legend"

it's a sad day my fellow united brothers,a very sad day!

Gutted, what a great player, I was really looking forward to the prospect of saha and ole coming back. I'm sure if he hadn't got injured he would of scored a load.

Legend!!

I wonder if fergie will buy a player now? We only really got tevez now. Saha, rooney injured for the moment, dong and co don't really make the standard. They need a year or two. But I guess this might force some more play time on them, potentially great experience for them.

was a bit diffrent when we had ole and saha on the sidelines. I don't fancy just having saha, he gets injured too much. There needs to be backup.

guess SAF did not see it coming since we didn't go for a striker on the Transfer marked!
i kind of agree that we have a striker problem and that we shoud look for a striker in the following days!

whens the transfer market close? end of this month? Do you think they can pick a player that fast? Or would you think they always have reserve options open for times like these?

Ole confirms retirement (SkySports.com)

Striker retires with 'very special memories' - 28/08/2007

"They have been fantastic and were a real inspiration to me when I was out injured.
"The support the fans and the staff showed me during that time was the main motivation for me making my comeback.

"I feel proud to have represented Manchester United for 11 years and have some very special memories."

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who paid £1.5million for Solskjaer in 1996, offered a glowing appraisal of the forward's Old Trafford career.

Ferguson said: "Ending your playing career is a sad day for anyone, in the case of Ole, he has 11 fantastic years he can look back on.

"Ole has achieved everything a player could ever wish to achieve.

"He has been a great servant to the club and has always remained a model professional in his responsibility as a player, in his demeanour and his manners have always been exemplary. Ole will hopefully go on to be a good coach."

You can get a deal finalised in 10 minutes on the last day of the transfer window.

There are rumours that Man City and West Ham are battling to sign Adrianno for 10mill... anyone else think we should be battling with them????

I think the reason Adriano went so down hill last season was because of his lack of commitment, and partying lifestyle. Ferguson will know plenty about Adriano in terms of playing and his lifestyle, if he was to decide to sign him, then I would be in support of that, but I think there's a reason no bigger clubs are trying to sign him. Even Arsene Wenger rejected to take him on loan.

how many of you here believe we will get another striker before the transfer period is over ?

I believe we might make a late bid and sign someone :$

i'm seriously hoping we do, what with only having 3 established strikers and one only 100% fit.

My case for Martins is that he is super quick (quicker than Saha), has a physical presence, has a great leap on him, not cup-tied and has a release clause of 13 million pounds if im not mistaken. He is younger than Anelka and would be a cheaper alternative to Berbatov. Although it sucks that he would be away for Nigeria in January.

I don't think that we will be going for another striker (but you never know), I can see the likes as Frazier Campbell, Dong etc moving up the pecking order, we all know that SAF likes to give our youth players the chance to be part of the first team and this is a chance for them
