they are not players for other premiership clubs
i think a club like man utd should have higher standards
they're both not quick (especially o'shea) and they don't have any technique

But normally they're not starters and better players (e.g Heinze) would not be willing to spend time on the bench if they could start at another club.

how come bardsley's not on the swuad list?

Hes on the clubs website, but he didn't impress at Aston Villa though and I'm not sure if he'll get much chances this season.

Why we let Smith leave is really beyond me, while Saha and Ole's records of their fitness in the last two seasons aint that impressive. It leaves us with just 2 strikers in Rooney and Tevez with no height for much of the season...and now Rooney is injured.

Moreover, Smith never really had a chance to establish himself as a striker in the team because of the long term injury and playing out of position. When he got a good run of games like he did when he first joined us, he did well. I questioned Fergie's decision to buy him as he's never proved to be a prolific striker before joining us. But after the first couple of months I started to like the player not only because of his whole-heartedness when he's playing, but also because he did well when playing as a striker in our team. Now I want to question Fergie even more, why bought him at the first place if you were not to give him a chance to prove himself!!??

I have a feeling our downfall for the season is already set before it even started. This game wouldn't be the last one when Fergie has to regret the decision to sell Smith.

You guys joined the race for Dani Alves. I think he would fit perfectly in your team!

I really doubt it, Sevilla rejected a 23m bid for him and I don't think we have that much money left and he also plays more as a wing back and would leave us really exposed in defense as we already have one small full back who has a tendency to get caught out of position. He obviously wouldn't be able to replace Ronaldo as our right winger.

rooney's out for 2 months damn!!. what a blow. our european ambitions could be affected as well. Hopefully tevez can fill in and do a job for us. Right now the short term goal is to get 3 points at pompey.

2 months damn that sucks :(
Good thing that Tevez is there to fill in the position otherwise United would have a big problem!
Ajax already told United that Huntelaar is not for sale :junior: just in case.. ;)
Hopefully Wayne will be back soon!
1-1 against Reading......... :S

I agree. The commentators were applauding reading for 'holding on' almost all the time after the 60th minute. Playing negative football and 'holding on' means that the team only got lucky not to concede a goal after so many threats. Reading didn't deserve a point at all..

I totally agree...i was quite infuriated by the way the commentators were praising and appluading the reading players. I dont understand...its not like they had a go at us and we couldnt cope. Heck even a team in the conference league knows how to put its whole team behind the ball and defend.

Does Huntelaar have ANY ambition to actually achieve something big?

And it was 0-0, not 1-1 ;)

Help?

I think our CL campaign is ok because Rooney will only miss two group stage games out of 6, so nothing important there. 8 league games though could hurt, like it already did with Reading, unless somebody else steps-in. Man, i hope Tevez is on top of his form right now.

Oh my! all this fuzz after the first game of the season, the season has just started, I am quite sure that everything will be allright, last season we were also lacking in the striking department, but we managed to score a lot of goals and those goals came from about 16 players, we didn't need an out and out striker and I am quite sure that this season we will be even more lethal

Still one point ;)

And about Huntelaar of course he has ambition but his opinion is that he's too young at the moment and he feels that Ajax is the ideal place for him to grow more and develop as a player but he also says that he will probably go abroad next year. He feels he'll be ready then.
Let's first see how he performs for us this coming season cause he didn't score in the last 4 games for Ajax but I'm sure he'll start scoring soon enough :) maybe against Slavia Prague on wednesday..

agree's we got so many potential goal scorers, we can cope without rooney for 2 months, if not there something wrong.

Just a question who's going to step up there game during the golden chance with rooney being out. Tevez, anderson and dong or even cambell being our forwards, with saha and ole back in training, looks good if your asking me.

Especially with Saha, hes class when not injured. let hope he dont trip and a blade of glass and do a tripple helix flip landing on his head or something. Not to forget the legend ole, and rate him to put any chances away when fit.

Waits for Wednesday, i have a feeling the squads going to go out and prove a point.

Even though Tevez is a top, top player, he like other players would need time to settle. And Pompey would be his first game he'd play with the lads. I'd settle for a scrappy win for tomorrow's game.

Personally, we will miss the remaining out and out strikers at the club like Saha and Ole because they can put away the chances and take one or two defenders with them. Reading found it easy because there was no striker for them to deal with since Ronaldo and Nani were often on the wings.

We probably dont need a new striker, we already got 4 solskjaer, rooney, saha, and tevez. plus we have anderson who can also play as striker so we really dont need huntelaar.....
