That line up is amazing, did it really happen? I think it would be good to play Rooney in midfielder if it means Berbatov can start in attack.

Berbatov is good. Don't know why Fergie is being such a prick to him. He's better than Chicharito (who is also good, but not like Berba).

Hernandez is at his best as an impact sub, starting Berbatov or Welbeck and Rooney and bringing Herdnanez on in the 70th is the most effective way of utilizing those players.

That was not the lineup at the beginning though, just how it ended with substitutions, Evans started instead of Fryers, Giggs and Nani instead of Rooney and Marcheda.

But yeah what a win! Sometimes Fergie's random selections do work, I remember that cup match against arsenal last season where you played fabio and rafael as wingers and I think had about eight defenders on the pitch and still played great.

That was against 10 players though. It makes a huge difference. That wasn't a red card IMO. Controversial one.

Rooney in midfield would be a waste of his attacking potential. Rooney should be free of defensive duties if we want to get the best of him. He should play AMF, SS or CF. Not CM.

Yeah I like Rooney best as a supporting striker, though he does actually carry out his defensive duties very well. Of the worlds top forwards (Rooney, Messi, Ronaldo etc) I would say Rooney is the best defensively.

Yeah I suppose playing Wigan at home with a man down, you would be disappointed if you didnt put four or five past them.

Happy for Berbatov got a chance to play and proved a point. About time he started instead of Welbeck.

Why doesn't Fergie play Rafael? He has been sitting on the bench for two weeks now and Ferguson still ended up playing Fryers today. I don't get it.

We keep getting an injury per game, so annoying, when will City start going down with injuries?

They have pretty good squad depth tho.

Take out Kompany, Lescott, Silva, Nasri and Aguero and City will drop behind Tottenham. United is dealing with worse injury situation then that. We finished the Wigan game with 4 strikers and 4 central midfielders.

No you are not. Those are City's five best players (give or take a Yaya Toure), you are not playing without your five best players (last time I checked Rooney and Nani arent injured...)

City are the only top team in the Premier League with sufficient depth to absorb all but the most desperate of injury crises, but then, when you have money you can do that.

I'd argue that Berbatov is one of your 5 best players. Along with Rooney, Nani, Vidic, and probably Chicharito or Jones. Maybe even, sadly, Giggs.

Your problem has been failure to bring up good youth team players (Pique, Rossi, Shawcross, Zieler, Tosic) and spending big money, but preferring domestic players over better foreign players. When I was listing your best players I went to the wikipedia page to make sure I didn't miss anybody. And looking through the squad I was struck by how few stars you have. Phil Jones is awesome, but he's not yet in a position where he should be asked to carry a team like he is now. At true big clubs, he's not a top 5 player. Those guys I listed, some of them aren't stars, but they ARE as good as the guys you spent big money bringing in.

Don't forget we sent Bebe out on loan. Future star.

The problem with the youngsters you've listed is that we didn't have space in the squad when they were ready to step up. In Tosic's case he was just too small.

We do have some that are on the verges now (Pogba, Morrisson, Brady, Tunnicliffe). It will be interesting to see how they develop.

I would count our biggest failure as being Fergie's inability to sign a top class central midfielder. Who was the last brilliant central midfielder? Kleberson? Djemba-Djemba?

Yes, this is exactly the point I made a few pages back when I talked about who you would pick from the current United squad if you were assembling a top team from scratch. Manchester United are one of the biggest clubs in the world and one of the most in form clubs in the world, having been EPL champions and CL finalists last season. For for a club in that position to suddenly have such a dearth of quality should be very worrying to the fans, especially with the activities of their rival clubs, one rival club in particular.

And I didnt even know Shawcross used to be at United, the list of stars to slip through Fergie's fingers is even longer than I thought....

He's 5'7'' and was loaned out immediately. 5'7'' is not prohibitively small for a winger. It's bigger than Messi, and that dude Guily was a legit midget.

They why the hell did Fergie buy him at the age of 21? Did he expect him to get bigger at this age?
