Morphing Process From 3DS Max To Head RX3 (Tutorial)

I find out that many people want to make faces but the biggest problem for them is that they can't morph faces in 3dsMAX so I decided to make more detailed tutorial than du_oro10 made and I hope that it can help them.

I won't paste here a DL for 3ds MAX because you can easily find that version that you like the most (from 2009 to 2012, don't know about 2013) at many torrent servers.

SO LET'S BEGIN

So you made a face in FaceGen and exported it in a folder and want to convert obj file into cff...


ATTENTION - IF YOU MADE SOMETHING WRONG AND WANT TO MOVE TO YOUR PREVIOUS RESULT FOR ONE STEP FOR EXAMPLE - YOU SHOULD JUST CLICK AT YOUR KEYBOARD "Ctrl + Z" AND IF YOU MAKE SEVERAL MISTAKES DURING YOUR MORPHING YOU CAN CLICK "Left Ctrl + Z" as many times as you want. But if you clicked Ctrl + z but didn't want that you can click "Ctrl + Y" and this will make a step forward and you can click "Ctrl + Y" as many times as you want.

"LEFT CTRL + Z" move step back if you made something wrong - you can click "LC+Z" as many times as you want !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"LEFT CTRL + Y" move step forward, you can click "LC+Y" as many times as you want !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YOU NEED THESE FILES FOR MORPHING (Working face.cff and Head_XXXX.rx3) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EXPORTING PARAMETERS FOR OBJ FILES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TEXTURE TYPE - BMP, PUT THE CHECK MARK NEXT TO "CURRENT EXPRESSION", SCALE - 1.000000, THE OTHER PARAMETERS ARE 0 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PROJECTION TYPE SHOULD BE ALWAYS - ORTHOGRAPHIC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!


So you've exported your obj face into folder and received something like this (let's take for example KurtConban's Xabi)


AFTER THIS YOU SHOULD PUT Working face.cff and head_XXXX.rx3 from DL that I gave you (http://depositfiles.com/files/bmngf3nla), you should put Working face.cff and head_XXXX.rx3 for each obj file (for each face you make).

After this open 3dsMax (from version 2009 to 2012, don't know about version 2013)

Then search your folder with your Xabi face
Desktop/Xabi folder/Working face.cff and choose it and click Open.

Then click ZOOM EXTENTS ALL, you can find this button in the right lower corner of you 3dsMAX (in the upper line of lower different icons).


Then Click FILE-IMPORT and search Xabi folder and click Xabi.obj and click Open


There appeared an import window you should remove the check mark next to words "FLIP ZY-axis" and next to word "COLLAR" and only after those manipulations you can click IMPORT.


IF WHEN YOU CLICKED "IMPORT" AND THERE APPEARED SOMETHING LIKE collar, eyes or headbydu_oro10 not found - DON'T WORRY JUST CLICK "SKIP" and that's all, such inscriptions appear when you renamed eyes textures, face textures or deleted collar textures or put your own textures instead of FaceGen default ones, so don't worry just click SKIP.

And you received this


Then click at the left upper corner of your 3dsMAX on the icon named "SELECT BY NAME"


Then click FaceUV 1 (BUT CHOOSE THE CORRECT FaceUV 1)
BECAUSE THERE ARE TWO FaceUV 1: FaceUV 1 for head model and FaceUV 1 for eyes model and in different 3dsMAX versions FACEUV 1 are situated in different places but if you chose the right FaceUV1 you should receive such result - THE WHOLE HEAD SHOULD BE IN A WHITE SQUARE like at this picture without eyes square, the whole head in one square!!!


Then click at the right upper corner at your 3dsMAX and CLICK AT ICON named "MODIFY".

Then you can see five geometric figures under "SELECTION"

YOU SHOULD CHOOSE AND CLICK AT FIRST ONE CALLED "VERTEX" !!!!!!!!!!!

And after this you'll receive that all your head model will be covered with blue points.


AFTER ALL THOSE MANIPULATIONS YOU SHOULD CHOOSE THAT PART OF YOUR MODEL THAT YOU'D LIKE TO MORPH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ATTENTION I ALWAYS CHOOSE THE NEXT WAY - I ALWAYS BEGGING SELECTION FROM THE UPPER PART OF THE FACE
YOU SHOULD CAPTURE THE WHOLE NOSE !!!
AND FINISH YOUR SELECTION UNDER ADAM'S APPLE!!!
THAT'S THE RIGHT WAY HOW TO CAPTURE THE WHOLE FACE.

JUST LOOK AT THE PICTURE AND YOU'LL UNDERSTAND WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT - JUST LOOK AT THE GREEN SQUARE THAT I IDENTIFIED WITH A MARKER FOR YOU !!!!!!


THEN CLICK ON THE RIGHT LOWER PART OF YOUR 3dsMAX
THERE under "Edit Geometry" you can find a line called "SOFT SELECTION" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just click at the plus near the words "SOFT SELECTION" and it'll open.

THEN PUT A CHECK MARK NEAR THE WORDS "USE THE SOFT SELECTION"
JUST CLICK AND CHOOSE "USE THE SOFT SELECTION" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!


THEN LOOK AT THE WORD "FALLOFF"
YOU CAN SEE THERE A NUMBER "20", YOU SHOULD MAKE FROM 20 THIS NUMBER 8,6

8,6 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HOW TO MAKE THIS - YOU SEE THERE ARE TWO ARROWS BEHIND NUMBER "20", SO JUST CLICK THE LEFT BUTTON OF YOUR MOUSE ON THE LOWER ARROW and hold the left button of your mouse and just DRAG THE MOUSE DOWN UNTIL YOU'LL GET A NUMBER "8,6" !!!!!!!!!


Then CLICK AT THE UPPER LINE OF YOUR 3dsMAX and CHOOSE MODIFIERS - ANIMATION - MORPHER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!


THEN YOU CAN SEE IN THE RIGHT LOWER PART OF YOU 3dsMAX A HUGE AMOUNT OF WORDS "EMPTY"

YOU SHOULD CHOOSE THE FIRST - THE UPPER WORD "EMPTY" AND CLICK ON IT WITH THE RIGHT BUTTON OF YOUR MOUSE
THEN THERE WILL APPEAR "PICK FROM SCENE" AND YOU YOU CLICK ON IT WITH THE LEFT BUTTON OF YOU MOUSE
FIRST RIGHT BUTTON OF YOUR MOUSE AT THE FIRST AND THE UPPER WORD "EMPTY" AND THEN LEFT BUTTON ON THE ""PICK FROM SCENE" !!!!!!!!!!!!


THEN YOU JUST SHOULD CLICK AT THE LEFT LOWER HEAD MODEL WITH THE LEFT BUTTON OF YOUR MOUSE and when you make this,
word "EMPTY" SHOULD BE CHANGED INTO THE INSCRIPTION "Headbydu_oro10" (you can see this in the right lower part of you 3dsMAX)


THEN MAKE THE SAME AS YOU DID WITH THE NUMBER "20" TO MAKE "8,6"
JUST CLICK THE LEFT BUTTON OF YOUR MOUSE AT THE UPPER ARROW BEHIND 0 and DRAG IT UP UNTIL YOU'LL REACH NUMBER "100" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!


THEN YOU SHOULD DELETE Headmodelbydu-oro10 - how to do this
YOU SHOULD JUST CLICK THE LEFT BUTTON OF YOUR MOSE AT THE LOWER LEFT HEAD MODEL until you'll reach such result as I received at my screen (you can click with the left button of you mouse as much as you want until you see the same result as at the picture - you should click at the lower left head model).
YOU SHOULD CLICK UNTIL YOU SEE IN THE UPPER RIGHT CORNER OF YOUR 3dsMAX INSCRIPTION "Headbydu_oro10" above "Modifier List" IN THE RIGHT UPPER CORNER OF YOUR 3dsMAX.


THEN JUST CLICK DELETE AT YOUR KEYBOARD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SO AFTER ALL THESE MANIPULATIONS YOU SHOULD CLICK THE LEFT BUTTON OF YOUR MOUSE AT THE GREY SQUARE AT THE LEFT LOWER PART OF YOU 3dsMAX, JUST CLICK ON IT AND HOLD THE BUTTON AND JUST MOVE YOUR MOUSE AND YOU CAN SEE THE YOU CAN ROTATE YOUR FACE AS YOU WISH.


JUST TRY AND PRACTICE, AFTER THEN AS YOU CHOSE THE MOST COMFORTABLE ANGLE FOR YOUR HEAD MODEL YOU CAN USE THE ROLLER OF YOUR MOUSE, JUST MOVE THE ROLLER UP AND DOWN AND HEAD MODEL WILL BE CLOSER OR FARTHER.


THEN WE SHOULD MORPH EYES model, JUST MOVE THE HEAD MODEL AND MAKE IT AS MORE COMFORTABLE FOR YOU TO SEE THE EYES MODEL AS AT THE PREVIOUS PICTURE.
YOU SHOULD CHOOSE FaceUV 1 for EYES Model - BE CAREFUL BECAUSE THERE ARE TWO MODELS FOR EYES: FaceUV 1 and Eyesmodelbydu_oro10, you should click the left button of your mouse at FaceUV 1, in my occasion FaceUV 1 is colored in green color but for different faces and different 3dsMAX versions this color can be different.
JUST CHOOSE FaceUV 1 - IF YOU CHOSE CORRECTLY you can see in the right upper corner of your 3dsMAX (at the previous picture) such INSCRIPTION "FaceUV 1" above "Modifier List", if there is written "FaceUV 1" than this means that you chose correctly.

AFTER THIS MAKE NEXT MANIPULATIONS
IN THE UPPER LEFT PART OF YOUR 3dsMAX click on the MODIFIERS - ANIMATION - MORPHER


THEN MAKE WITH THE EYES MODEL THE SAME AS WITH THE HEAD MODEL
IN THE RIGHT LOWER PART OF YOUR 3dsMAX you'll see many inscriptions "EMPTY", JUST CLICK AT THE FIRST and THE UPPER WORD "EMPTY" with the right button of your mouse and there will appear "PICK FROM SCENE" and you SHOULD CLICK ON THIS INSCRIPTION.


THEN YOU SHOULD MOVE YOUR MOUSE ARROW at the left lower part of your 3dsMAX where is a head model with the eyes model, there you should move your mouse on the eyes until you see inscription "Eyesbydu_oro10" and click at this moment at the eyes model with the left button of your mouse and there should appear in the right lower corner of your 3dsMax at that place where was word "EMPTY" should appear inscription "Eyesbydu_oro10" and this would means that you made everything correctly.


THEN JUST CLICK THE LEFT BUTTON OF YOUR MOUSE AT THE UPPER ARROW BEHIND 0 and DRAG IT UP UNTIL YOU'LL REACH NUMBER "100" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!


THEN YOU SHOULD DELETE Eyesbydu-oro10 - how to do this
YOU SHOULD CLICK LEFT BUTTON OF YOUR MOUSE AT THE WHITE EYES MODEL UNTIL YOU SEE IN THE UPPER RIGHT CORNER OF YOUR 3dsMAX INSCRIPTION "Eyesbydu_oro10" above "Modifier List" IN THE RIGHT UPPER CORNER OF YOUR 3dsMAX.


AND AS YOU SAW SUCH INSCRIPTION "Eyesbydu_oro10" AT THE RIGHT UPPER PART OF YOUR 3dsMAX ABOVE "MODIFIER LIST" - JUST CLICK DELETE BUTTON AT YOUR KEYBOARD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AND YOU'LL GET SUCH RESULT


YOU CAN CHECK IF YOU DELETE EVERYTHING RIGHT AND CORRECT JUST BY CLICKING "SELECT BY NAME" - IN THE LEFT UPPER LINE OF YOUR 3dsMAX
AND THERE SHOULD LEFT ONLY TWO LINES - FaceUV 1 (for head model) and FaceUV 1 (for eyes model) and only these two lines nothing else !!!!!!!!!!!!


THAT'S ALMOST ALL - YOU SHOULD CLICK IN THE UPPER LINE WITH THE LEFT BUTTON OF YOUR MOUSE
at "MAXScript" - Export_cff


THEN YOU SHOULD REPLACE THAT "Working face.cff" that you imported at the beginning of your work with this one, YOU SHOULD REWRITE (REPLACE) THE SAME Working face.cff file with that you've morphed and click SAVE
and when 3dsMAX will ask you "C/Desktop/...../Xabi DO YOUR REALLY WANT TO REPLACE IT" - CLICK YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!


AND THAT'S ALL WITH 3dsMAX - CONGRATULATE YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!

NOW LEFT EASY THING - HOW TO CORRECTLY CONVERT WITH THE CYBER FACE CONVERTOR made by jor1980

JUST CLICK AT CFC-Fifa12 and it'll open then click at "CFF To RX3 file" and go to your folder with your face, for example C/Desktop/.../Xabi
and choose head_XXXX.rx3 and then choose Working face.cff that you saved before in this folder and that's all, your head_XXXX.rx3 is now ready for using in FIFA 13 and for editing in Blender and 3dsMax.

FOR THOSE WHO CAN'T convert cff file into head_XXXX.rx3 you should download the latest slimDX (ver.2.0 or ver.4.0 or better version) or some other stuff like FULL NET.FRAMEWORK 3.5 (or even better 4.0).
ALSO FOR SOME PEOPLE, especially those who live in RUSSIA, UKRAINE and other countries in EUROPE IF YOU SURE THAT YOU INSTALLED EVERYTHING THAT THIS CYBER CONVERT REQUIRES AND NOTHING STILL WORKS you should edit working face.cff with NOTEPAD++ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YOU SHOULD CHANGE ALL POINTS TO COMAS - HOW TO DO IT
SEARCH - REPLACE AND IN THE LINE "FIND" there you should put "POINT" and in the LINE "REPLACE AT" you should put "COMAS" and click REPLACE ALL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THEN CLICK SEARCH - REPLACE - REPLACE ALL and there should appear inscription "15505 occurrences were replaced", very important that there appear number "15505" because sometimes there appear other number like "14484" or something like that and that's wrong,
there should appear "15505" that's very important !!!!!!!!!!!!!
THEN JUST SAVE this document and close it !!!!!!!!!!!!!

ANT TRY TO CONVERT AGAIN: Open CFC-Fifa12 - Click CFF To RX3 - Choose Working face.cff and open - Choose head_XXXX.rx3 and open and there should appear such inscription "CFF Imported" and this means that you've made everything correctly.

I've used my English knowledge for this tutorial and almost didn't use translator (just used few times and only to look translation of some words) so maybe some sentences you won't understand well but you can use online translators or vocabularies and then I think you can understand what I wrote here very well.

HOPE THAT THIS DETAILED TUTORIAL WILL BE HELPFUL AND USEFUL FOR SOMEONE, because I've spent half of a day to make this tutorial and I hope that my efforts were not in vain. HAVE FUN !!!​

What advantage to the "simple morphing" do I get in following your steps?
I mean: as example what is falloff?

I don't know the exactly right translation of the word "falloff" but this is an area which will be morphed in the future - we morph not the whole head but only front half of the head (we should make falloff number = 8,6 to fit the head size in the FIFA game geometry and to make the head size fits hairs well).
About advantages - didn't understand what exactly you were talking about.

You get two faces because you installed du_oro's files for Facegen in wrong folder or maybe you didn't delete those files that are in Facegen folder before you put there du_oro and that can be a problem. delte facegen files something like eyes, ears etc. and delete everything and put du_oro's I don't remember where folder but at Win 7 it should be C:\Users\verh\AppData\Roaming\FaceGen\Modeller3\ModelSets\csamDefault for example, just del everything in this folder and then put du_oro's files for FaceGen.

hi verh, im using win 8,, and i have slimdx 2.0 and 4.0 installed..
but, jor cfc wont run on my computers..
it said coud not assembly slimdx ver=2.x.x

maybe you have the solution for me?

Honestly don't know about Win8.
I have Win7 and I should install almost all slimDX until I found that I needed, it was 2.0 March but what year I don't remember.

I can advice you only install all until it'll work I began my installation from latest version but they didn't help me there is no solution except installing all slimDX untill it'll work also check if you installed Framework 4.0.
This problem with slimdx have many people and there is no solution just trying ans installing slimdx because at different comps different progmars are installed for me was useful 2.0 for March but maybe for someone else will be useful other version.

About registration code, there is no actually Reg code at those version of Facegen I saw there were a FaceGen and a key generator, so you just need to download version that include such generator but there are many versions of FG with key generator in Internet.

i have a problem with adding the import/export cff to 3ds max. i followed the steps in the video tutorial and copied the files to the folders but they dont appear in that list in 3ds max

what to do? :(
