Most anticipated album of '08?

The Mars Volta released a new one not too long ago, and it has some amazing melodies. Highly recommended if you're into their style. The chorus for "Ouroborous" is simply insane.

I'll definitely check it out, bro, but with great apprehension, I must tell yah. The last album of theirs that I gave a proper listen to was Frances the Mute, and I couldnt stand that ******* cd, man. Same goes for Ampute, except I didn't even bother giving that one a fair chance...I thought that it was just a total headache and completely mindless.

I realize that it's too early and that I consistently make bombastic proclamations about this being the greatest and that being the best of whatever, but this album just might be not only the best rap album of 2008, but the best output of any genre this year period, man!

I finally got around to purchasing it, and man, let me tell yah, it is truly flawless...well, about as close to being perfect aspossible, anyway. The atmosphere of the album is persistently gritty and gloomy, the lyrics are lofty and awe-inspiring, the beats, although maybe not on par with their best, are also sublime, and lastly, the guest appearances are well chosen and suited for each song that they appear in. Some might say that there was an over abundance of guests, but I don't recall a single track where they were a detriment to the whole, you know?


I'm only on my second listen through right now, so there's still a chance for me to come across glaring faults with the album as I give it more attention, but I highly doubt it, man.

I like her but to be honest her first single sucks, its so monotone it could put you to sleep.

Yeah. I heard about this foray into music that she's making. Any truths to it being a cd consistingof Tom Waits material? I'd love to check it out if that's the case, man. She's got a very interesting and sultry voice that I feel could interpret Waits lyrics into something fascinating.

I definitely had a hard time listening to "Amputechture" too, but despite some weird and quirky moments it does have some great compositions. At the very least you should give "Vermicide" and "Viscera Eyes" another chance. Two of their best tracks if you ask me.

"Frances the Mute" is not easy on the ears either, but I love the funky/latin feels to songs like "L'Via L'viaquez" and "Cygnus...Vismund Cygnus".

Who knows, they might grow on you just like QOTSA's "Era Vulgaris" did with me.

Deloused was such a fresh and well made cd that I'm still overwhelmed by it to the point where I keep unfairly comparing their subsequent works to it....ive gotta stop doing that.

I only recently started listening to him (had a hard time finding downloads so I borrowed three cds from the bass player in my band). I saw him at Roskilde 06, and it was like walking into this fog of persistently gloomy beats and serious rap vocals. He even had these poetic rants where it was just him talking/rapping with no beat at all. I still remember one of the lines:

I watch my culture bleed
I watch my culture die

NO WAY? I swear, if I look hard enough around my house, I could probably find a cassette version of the first one.....do you suppose that it's worth anything?


Anyway. I hope that Cappadonna is allowed to make an appearance or two.

man, you could not have described his sound more precisely! I've given his latest a listen and it's almost too painfully gloomy. The sound is just on another level of being atmospheric and impenetrable. It gets tiring after about the 6th or 7th track, but you know, it's alright, I suppose.

Oh damn, the Purple Tape? I doubt it's worth anything, but I don't see it on ebay, and I KNOW it's rare, so if you threw it up when he comes out with Cuban Linx II you might get something for it.

I'm so excited for this album man, and have been for like 2 years now. The production is like RZA and Dr. Dre teaming up. It's gonna be so sick. If Dre could just get his **** together and put out Cuban Linx II and Detox I would be a happy camper.

I think The Game is dropping another album pretty soon which I'm looking forward to. Also, T.I. (although his last album was a major disappointment), Lil' Wayne, and Nas.

I do like some rock, not just the hip-hop.. I listen to stuff like A Perfect Circle, old Smashing Pumpkins (early 90's stuff), RATM, and some other various indy bands.

Cool man. APC are an awesome band as well, and I guess my obvious recommendation would be Tool since they (to me) have the ultimate combination of a thick, heavy sound mixed with beautiful vocals. But you've definitely heard some of their stuff before and formed an opinion already. Just in case you don't know... "The Pot" off of their latest album (10,000 Days) is one of THE most perfect heavy tracks ever written.

Also, I have a feeling that you'll definitely like an album called "Damnation" by Swedish black-metal giants Opeth. Why? Because the entire album isn't black-metal or any other form of brutal metal at all, it's actually a soft, melodic, progressive-rock album produced by the lead-singer of Porcupine Tree.

Yeah, I like Tool also, but I'm not as familiar with their more recent stuff. I Have Undertow and Aenima, but kinda stopped following them after that.

EDIT: I been kinda listening to a Canadian band called "Evans Blue" lately, they're such an obvious Tool/A Perfect Circle rip-off, but they actually have a few decent tracks.

yeah, bro. My brother left me with his entire collection of tapes, cds, VHSs and vinyl when he was leaving for school...it was probably more than a thousand items at the time, but it's been plundered through the years by friends and family and damaged beyond repair by my extreme carelessness.


I only heard about the making of this sequel when you posted it here, and I don't really want to get myself all Carlos*ed up about it for fear of it being a massive letdown when it does come out, man.

hurhurhur.....Indeed, bro. Angels is a mighty beautiful track. The chick who does the backing vocals is also delightful. In regards to 'Bright Lights', I can definitely see where you're coming from, bro, but I'm actually cool with indulgently long tracks and not at all daunted by 'em. As a huge fan of Jam bands and 60/70s rock, I'm very tolerant towards 'em, man.
