I seriously doubt it.. some Muslims thought he was one just because of the way he knelt to the ground after he scored against Australia. But it doesn't mean anything, i've seen some South American players do the same after scoring at club level. Many Brazilian players are very commited Catholics, if you remember how they were running around pointing to sky with all the Jesus shirts when they won the '02 world cup.

Brazil, like almost all of Latin America, is very heavily Catholic, but one Muslim out of a few hundred million wouldn't surprise me ;)

There's actually 9 million Brazilians with a Lebanese heritage, and over 4 million of Syrian background in Argentina and Brazil. But most of those arrived there in the 19th and early 20th centuries and have largely adopted the new cultures and religion since then. Of course there are some that still adhere to their old customs and religion, but i don't think Fred is one of them.

that was not after he scored. that was after an australian player made a hard challange against him and probably something was hurting.

And he's not muslim, he's catholic just like Kaka and many other Brazilian players. Just by pointing at the sky, doesn't mean you're muslim.

Nah, ShiftyPowers is alright. He's a Bayern and German NT fan. I'm willing to pretend he's Canadian.

one question: why does religion matter? as long as their religion is their club while they're on the field, it shouldn't make a difference.
that's the great thing about football: it is constant and no matter what culture you find yourself in, you're almost guaranteed to be able to find someone who knows the game if you want. it, and music, unify the world.
