Houston mate, a lay off is when someone gives you or you give them a ball to help them shoot, kinda a good pass which should end in a shot.

Ahmed, I play for Locks Heath and we're in the Wessex Eastern Conference Reserve League, and it's in England (South)

Next game we've got Winchester and it's a night game, their first team actually pay their players and they've got a very good club, not sure if they pay the reserves but these are the games I gotta play well in :)

After quite a bit of detective work, I've actually tracked down a page of weekly results for the Locks Heath Reserve squad!

I'm not sure how to get a direct link, but you can do the following:

1) Go to http://www.yellowjersey.co.uk/
2) Type Locks Heath into the team search box
3) Select Locks Heath Reserves from the results list

You can see the up-to-date table, as well as scores. It appears this is all maintained by a 'Nikki Hepple', so cheers to her for all the hard work. :)

Keep us updated! :)

Haha nice one :D I should be in the match report when it's posted.. here's why.

Today I started (left midfield) which I was realy happy about and started the game with the ball bein nocked to the left wing just outside the box. I did a cutback with my left, and then nocked it in, it was cleared but from that point I knew the defender was mine.

I did some nice touches, flicks, and my movement (which I need to work on) was better, and I felt im improving.

They went 2 up in the first 20 mins which was annoying cause they didnt really have 1 good player to be honest.

Then on the 30th minute, I picked up the ball on the left side with a defender in front of me, but facing me.. so I rolled the ball left with my right foot, did a stepover, pretended to go down the wing.. stopped the ball. Then he didnt dive in, he held his ground, we stood there for a second or 2 while I jinked to go one way, then the other.. then I nocked the ball down the wing with my right foot and then smashed in a cross with my left, only to be met by one of our players which scored a goal! it felt good because I always set people up and hardly a goal comes out of it, so I got a lot of deservedly praise which was brilliant.

After that I did some nice touches, got some good fouls against me, won us some important free kicks, and just had a perfect half really. My best i'd ever played. Im 16 so it's a big step goin from boys to mens as early as I am, and the standard.. which is good.

Anyway we went in at half time at 2-1 down but the score didnt matter, it never does in the reserves because it's about individual performances in the reserves to get into the first team.

So yea everyone was sayin well done etc. So I was pleased.

We came out to a freezin cold second half lol, and it started slow with both teams havin little possesion and both being sloppy.

I did a few things but was closely marked, it's not an excuse but it's of course harder to find space. Maybe their manager said to mark me or somethin lol :p

But yeah, as the game went on I was quiet, and made a few mistakes. I had a few corners, the deliverys werent brilliant, and I hit the post on one :s

Then we got a goal back!

The game kinda stayed the same, with me individually being nowhere near as in the game as I was in the first half, but I still did ok.

Then they scored a beautiful screamer which made it 3-2

After we had a few attacks, one with me but I did a stepover, and the ball wasnt running enough u know? Like not as much as you'd like it to, I had two defenders in front of me, I took on one but then got tackled by the other. It was the wrong decision to make, it was my fault but i'll learn from it and get better.

I came off with about 8 mins to go but I think that's the best game i've had. So yea of course im pleased. My old man always tells me what I need to improve on and I felt that today I listened to him and got better at what needs improving.

We drew 3-3, but im happy I had a good game.

We scored a real scrappy goal in the last few mins btw.

So yea... 3-3 but who cares about the score really, individuality is the key!

I had my new boots on today, they felt good and im glad I christened them with some nice touches and a good performance.

I'd like to think that because of what I did (the cross etc), we wouldnt of got back into the game. Because before that we looked like blatantly losing, I think I injected a bit of life into the game.

So yea im real pleased and just wanna improve and keep doin well, I think im gettin there... im gettin there

Thanks for listenin and move this to the career thread if ya wana (Y) :D

I have my first game for my new team 2moro, doubt i'll get a start as i only started going to training the last 2 times, but i impressed the managers, one of our coaches worked for man utd in their soccer schools at one point, hes pretty good but he does push you as far as you can possibly go, hoping to get about 30 mins

Lost 2-0 against the best team in the lead, a very credible performance, i played 65 mins out of the 80 so not to shabby, i was fouled, shouda been a penalty but hay it dosnt always go our way, we got 2 men sent off, one for clearing it off the line with a hand, which led to their first goal (the penalty) and then another sent off for telling the ref where to go!

Away to Andover tomorrow, I just got a text sayin im in the team and to meet at our home ground around 12:50. Andover apparently have got a proper ground with a capacity of about 3000 apparently.

It's about an hour away to one of our furthest games.

I had a really good training session last night and everythin's just goin so well. I went down to the cricket pitches on Monday Tuesday Wednesday to practice and work on a few things, so i've played every day this week other than today lol, and the only reason im not playing now is because I need to rest for tomorrow.

It should be real good though, I should start, if I do i'll do well. Im learning more and more and my movement off the ball has improved a lot, i'll be good, for sure.

Im really confident at the moment and after settin up the goal last week it just makes me go into the game knowing that if I get the ball i'll do somethin good.

Hopefully i'll get my first goal soon, it'd be nice for it to be takin on a player or 2 and then smashin it in. But they all count so i'll take anythin :)

Camaaa :D

We lost today 2-0.

It was a really good set up, a nice high stand with a directors section and a press box :D They had a smart kinda tunnel area, and even had a little gym.

I started on the left side and found it hard to get into the game. They were very organised so they had no troubles positioning wise. Where's on the other hand we did. Our left back kept gettin sucked over and marked the center forward because the right side werent tracking back, so sometimes I was practically the last man, which wasnt right.

I did a few tricks and made a bit of space and did a few good things, but I didnt get the ball much. Our 2 center midfielders werent winning the ball and when they got it, they gave it away far too easily. So I hardly got a chance to test their right back. I got a lovely foul on me lol, got the ball, went to turn and got hacked right from behind.

But our goals were kinda sloppy.

Anyway in the second half it was kinda the same for me, I didnt get the ball much, I made runs but wasnt really gettin the ball. The pitch was an absolute joke btw. No excuses though. What I should of done and this is also advice for people who're out of the game for a few mins is get some touches on the ball, even coming short and givin an easy ball. Just to get a feel for it. Rather than be out of action for 5 mins, and then u wait for the perfect ball.. Then you HAVE to do somethin with it. But I didnt do that often enough.

I had a corner and it actually rattled the bar  , the 4th time i've hit the bar this season. Nearly went in.

Im not upset because I was the youngest and being young im always learning, every game. My movement's much better now.. Much much much better. So that's a plus. I take pluses and negatives from every game.

I don't play my next game untill after christmas, but im not gonna dwell on the past, i've learnt from today and I know what I need to do now which is good.

Next week i'll be practicing every day :) Real excited.

Cheers :D

Blessed.

At his current level it's usually not the best idea to take such a large gamble.

To get where he wants to be, it's two parts skill, and one part luck. If he doesn't have a backup plan, his life will be very difficult in the future if the luck part doesn't work for him. It's always good to have something to fall back upon in case the glory doesn't come as quickly as you'd like.

Even in the Conference, those are "part-time" footballers. In other words, they don't make enough money to live comfortably (although i suppose one could get by).

Amdy: At your current level i would not recommend that you "forget everything else". I don't know if you're still in school, but even if you could stay in school part-time and get some credible degree, it would be good for you. Anything can happen in the next 5-10 years, and as someone growing up to be a mature professional, i hope you understand what i'm talking about. You'll be just as skilled if you practise 7 hours a day and study for 1, than if you practise for 8 hours and never study.

I'm only 21 myself so i guess i can't talk too much, but i am working to become a professional referee one day, but i am still getting my teaching licence in 18 months, so i will always have a decent living to fall back upon.

I trust your judgement though, and i'm sure you'll be fine no matter how your career plays out. Good luck mate.

-Chas

PS wouldnt this be better suited in the "Your Soccer Career" forum? It might get lost amongst everything else here.
