Having had the game on PS2 for a few weeks and I thought I would give an opinion. I'm not a hard core gamer but I play this a lot.
Likes..the players seem to have good natural movement and I find that on semi pro I get realistic scores i.e not many 5-0 plus thrashings. I get beaten occasionally so the game to me seems realistic. Finished 4th in the premiership with Chelsea 1st season. I keep going back to the game so it shows I like it.
Dislikes...this will be more than likes but overall I like the game. Within the match a few things perturb me, sometimes I do a really light tackle, get the ball and a bit of the player and bang, I'm sent off for a first offence. if this happens in the first few minutes the whole game is a struggle. No ref strictness button like 2003. I could switch the cards off but as this is a part of the game why should I! I've hacked down players going solo on goal but only got a yellow and yet got a red for a tackle on the halfway line! In all the games I've played I've ever got one goal from a rebound off the posts/keeper, the ball always falls to an opposition player and my midfield seems to all be to far forward in the box even with a defensive strategy so the opposition breaks way through the middle with no problems. The goalies never ever drop the ball, even in the lower divisions. Not being able to dribble past a player seems to be a common complaint on here and I agree it's difficult. Play with a top player and he should be able to outdo a lower division player no problem but no it doesn't happen. I haven't really used the OTB yet as I find that you can't get enough space and time to set it up so I concentrate on setting up the forwards through the middle or getting the wingers to cross, which I've done to good effect. As to off the pitch I find the mangerial side really crap. If it's supposed to be realistic whats all this points stuff then. If you want to train a player you shouldn't have to pay for it. And if you have enough money and its the transfer window you should be able to buy a player irrespective of the points you have. I'm going to buy TCM to hopefully get a better system with Football Fusion. I bought Wayne Rooney and as soon as I tried to put him in the 1st 11 he was injured for 3 months. No warning at all. The commentary is laughable sometimes, very behind and sometimes totally wrong. Also it's very repetitive...you know whats coming every match. In the lower divisions Motty doen't even say some of the players names and half the the time it's wrong. I played as Torquay and a player called Graham he called Nodge..WTF is that about!
So overall a lot of complaints but for some reason i just can't stop playing the bloody thing. I'm looking forward to the Fusion side of things and I also look forward to EA sports reading these forums avidly to address all the complaints we have!!
Sorry it's long but there's a lot to cover
