My view on 2004

Having had the game on PS2 for a few weeks and I thought I would give an opinion. I'm not a hard core gamer but I play this a lot.

Likes..the players seem to have good natural movement and I find that on semi pro I get realistic scores i.e not many 5-0 plus thrashings. I get beaten occasionally so the game to me seems realistic. Finished 4th in the premiership with Chelsea 1st season. I keep going back to the game so it shows I like it.
Dislikes...this will be more than likes but overall I like the game. Within the match a few things perturb me, sometimes I do a really light tackle, get the ball and a bit of the player and bang, I'm sent off for a first offence. if this happens in the first few minutes the whole game is a struggle. No ref strictness button like 2003. I could switch the cards off but as this is a part of the game why should I! I've hacked down players going solo on goal but only got a yellow and yet got a red for a tackle on the halfway line! In all the games I've played I've ever got one goal from a rebound off the posts/keeper, the ball always falls to an opposition player and my midfield seems to all be to far forward in the box even with a defensive strategy so the opposition breaks way through the middle with no problems. The goalies never ever drop the ball, even in the lower divisions. Not being able to dribble past a player seems to be a common complaint on here and I agree it's difficult. Play with a top player and he should be able to outdo a lower division player no problem but no it doesn't happen. I haven't really used the OTB yet as I find that you can't get enough space and time to set it up so I concentrate on setting up the forwards through the middle or getting the wingers to cross, which I've done to good effect. As to off the pitch I find the mangerial side really crap. If it's supposed to be realistic whats all this points stuff then. If you want to train a player you shouldn't have to pay for it. And if you have enough money and its the transfer window you should be able to buy a player irrespective of the points you have. I'm going to buy TCM to hopefully get a better system with Football Fusion. I bought Wayne Rooney and as soon as I tried to put him in the 1st 11 he was injured for 3 months. No warning at all. The commentary is laughable sometimes, very behind and sometimes totally wrong. Also it's very repetitive...you know whats coming every match. In the lower divisions Motty doen't even say some of the players names and half the the time it's wrong. I played as Torquay and a player called Graham he called Nodge..WTF is that about!
So overall a lot of complaints but for some reason i just can't stop playing the bloody thing. I'm looking forward to the Fusion side of things and I also look forward to EA sports reading these forums avidly to address all the complaints we have!!
Sorry it's long but there's a lot to cover :)

Also I find that the crowd are very quiet for a while then the cheer at a goal is so bloody loud.I can't turn the volume up to hear any chants or anything because of this. And also there's no atmosphere with the crowd i.e when you come close to scoring there is nothing, no ooohs and ahhs...nothing!

...except the hundreds of people scrolling through this forum, hoping to find people with whom to commiserate.

Someone should create a petition of actual customers (complainers who play cracked versions excluded for obvious reasons) who state when and where they purchased the game and what their issues are. Then send it off to Giancarlo Varianini at Gamespot and get him to push EA for answers.

If ppl started caring and stopped whining, things might actually get better.

Having had 2003, which I enjoyed, when I got 2004 I was on the whole very disappointed. As I've played it more and got used to it I've changed my opinion a bit and am beginning to enjoy it more.
If I had come to a forum like this and read a review like mine I might have thought twice about handing over my hard earned for the game in the first place. If you have a PS2 (like me) you can rent it and decide later, which I didn't unfortunately. If you have a PC all you can do is suck it and see. In this case you could come to a forum like this and see all the problems within the game first. So personally I think you're wrong to say people don't care, surely this forum exists and thrives on people who DO care. Afer all what is wrong in giving an informed opinion to those who don't have the game, and sharing my views with those who do?

FIFA 2004 is the best game ever made after Madden 2004. I only play FIFA, but when you compare Madden to NFL , it is the best game not just sports game, EVER MADE. the stats, graphics, feel, career mode, trading, importing

FIFA 2004 is very very realistic and repeatable, I havent went to bed until 2-3 AM since Nov.3 and I go to college

Yeah, Madden 2004 is a fabulous game; far better than FIFA 2004! Tiger Woods 2004, and NHL 2004 are great games too. I don't play FIFA 2004 much, I prefer PES 3; but even that doesn't compare to Madden!!

It only took a few weeks for the novelty of FIFA 2004 to wear off, I'll play my games for about 2-3 weeks before I pass judgement from now on. It's such a poorly made game, an insult to the buying public. It took the sheer brilliance of PES 3, to show me how a computer football game should be made!

*Maybe next year, eh?...

I suppose the problem I find is that I'm not a big player due to time constraints but its taken a few weeks at an hour or two a day to see there are many glaring faults with the game which really should have been addressed before the game came out. Still it's too late now, they've got me money and thats that! If I had had more time and thought about it I could have hired the game to check it out. As I've said I still like the essence of the game, it's just a few very obvious things that bug me about it.

barneyg42, you obviously haven't played - or rather experienced - the sheer brilliance that is Pro Evolution Soccer 3.

Says the guy who has 238 posts in one month. Is this forums your life? There is a world out there.
Why do I do it? Because PES3 is better. I bet you haven't even tried PES/WE.
I'm very sorry to burst your bubble but I'm not going to shut up. :)
