2nd half was really good. We really played some quality football, a lot of it on the deck too, which was pleasing to see. 4-5 weeks ago we would have lofted it long and aimlessly, simply giving the ball away 90% of the time. Today, Boumsong sat deep and played most of his passes simple and to feet for us to go on a controlled attack.

N'Zogbia has to be knocking on the door of the French national squad (well U-21's at least) soon, he's putting in consistently good displays and proved yet again today just what an amazing player he is turning out to be. Solano's 1st goal was made by N'Zog.

The 2nd goal - WOW, the build up play was top class, and the finish was even better!

Solano and N'Zogbia on the wings, Emre and Parker patrolling the centre - how good is that!!!! Souness didn't believe in wingers, hence playing Shola and Bellamy there a few times. When he played Zog and Nobby there he wanted them to drift in field and cut inside...now those two are being employed in the positions they should be, and we've got so much more width. Which leaves space for Emre and Parker to take hold of the game.

Roeder is doing a great job for us, but he can't have the job on a full time basis due to lack of qualifications, nor does he want it full time anyway.

Great result today - I'm over the moon! About time too for us toon fans...it's been a very disappointing season!

Firstly welcome to the board, nice to see another Toon fan (Y)

Can't argue with anything you've said. Under Souness, any wide threat usually came from the full backs delivering balls from deep which from a center halfs perspective are easy to deal with. As for Boumsong + Bramble we all know on there day they're half decent center halfs but there was a distinct lack of confidence between them under Sourmess. Now with a few clean sheets behind their back they look a half decent pairing.

I suppose the only disappointing thing about today is another England squad announced with no Scott Parker. Good for us because we can't afford to risk him for some friendly but on merit the man deserves to at least travel to Germany. He's been nothing short of great for us and with Emre we have a healthy balance in the mid-field.

Things are looking up.

Parker's exclusion from the England squad is beyond a joke now, I honestly can't see a single flaw in Parker's game that warrents him not being called up as one of the possible holding midfielders. It's actually touching on becoming insulting, given that Ledley King and Rio Ferdinand (I heard his name mentioned for that role) are centre backs!

Parker, King and Carrick are the names that float about for that holding position, and for me it should ONLY be two of those three - Parker and Carrick, King is a centre back! (repetition of that fact needed...maybe Sven will read it)

Parker is to us what Keane was to Man United in my opinion - ok he's got a long way to go to level up with the guy who was so dominant for United, but he's definately on course. Similar attributes, hard worker, 110% for 95 minutes of the 90 minute match (!), and a leader on the pitch.

Why Sven can't see Parker slot into that position for England is plain bizarre! Parker would guard the defence, with Beckham and Lampard sitting in central midfield ahead of him, and Gerrard occupying the slightly advanced role, making use of his attacking abilities. Of course when a more defencive formation is required, Gerrard can simply drop back down into a 3 man central midfield, with Parker sitting behind.

Anyway - I could go on and on about formations and tactics - I've played football all my life and have watched even more than I've played! Sven = incompetent. Well not really, that's a bit harsh on the man, but some of his tactics are slightly Souness-like (again harsh :) lol)

P.S. Thanks for the welcome :Carlos*o:

:ewan: from me too.

to last nights game

Shearer looks good in a suit (said my sister...) :)
It wasn't the best of games, but with Parker, Emre, Solano it's a top class midflied - they've got stability, creativity and skill. If the defence (Given excluded) would be better, they would be far higher ranked in the table.
nice to see them collect some points in a row, they will continue to do that and when Owen comes back even more.

as why Sven/FA doens't pick Parker (see my post in the England Thread)
I can't believe that we have 2 specialists Parker & Carrick, yet King, Ferdinand get preferred ahead of them.

--------Parker--------
Becks-Lampard-Gerrard

Creativity and skill, backed by a "cleaner" and a safety wall.

We've been linked with a "shock" move for Ronaldo (Real Madrid one). Doesn't surprise me that link to be honest, when I heard of his unrest at the Bernabau I said I could see Fat Fred making a bid for him given his ambition in the transfer market coupled with our relationship with Real Madrid.

It wouldn't be too unfeasible for it to happen, Ronaldo may well enjoy the challenge of the Premiership, and had a good relationship with Owen...likewise it may be the sort of signing that cements Owen's commitment to Newcastle.

I know people say Ronaldo is fat and has lost it - but I think it'd be a good signing, he's still one of the best players of recent times.

Ronaldo has not lost it and anyone who suggests that needs to check the facts. He's been a 20 goals a season every year he's been at Real.

Anywa, him + Owen + Parker + Emre + Solano + Zoggy, could be a killer combination.

However I think there is a 0.00001% chance of us signing him, even if we had european footy.

Yup - most definately hasn't lost it (as I hinted by calling him still one of the best players of recent times) so I think he could be a worthy replacement for Big Al.

Owen 10 and Ronaldo 9...you know that'd scare the opposition! :rockman:
That's pace, strength and clinical finishing sitting upfront, they have played together at Real Madrid and supposidly were a formidible strike force.

We can't sign anyone till the summer, and for someone like Ronaldo that wouldn't be till after the World Cup in any case. Plus we don't know if the new manager would want Ronaldo - so yeah, the likelihood of signing him are slim right now, but personally, I'd be delighted to see him at St James'!

Could be another Kluivert, here for the £

Who we need is Dirk Kuyt from Feyenoord. He's of the Shearer mould and would be the ideal replacement.

well my personal opinion is that Kluivert could have been great player for us, had it not been for Souey taking the piss and playing Ameobi ahead of him. Kluivert clearly wanted to do well.

Anyway that's the past. Kuyt is an explosive and strong centre forward. I agree 100% there, he would be a terrific signing. Not too sure what his situation is with his club though.

I agree Kluivert could have been a good player for us, unfortunately as you pointed out above Souness didn't put enough faith in him and then as is happening with Luque, the fan's began to question his commitment to the cause.

Haven't actually seen much of Kuyt myself, but from what I've heard he'd be a great signing. Whether we'd be in contention to get him though is another matter, as I've heard Arsenal and the likes expressing an interest in him too.

A lot of clubs want him.

That was an awesome video, very well done. Thought the music leaves alot to be desired :p You guys should go back to red numbering as a retro move

Anyway, I think its all a bunch of b.s., but I sincerely hope Ronaldo does not go to the Toon. He is exactly the type of player that will POISON what youre building there right now: piss poor attitude, lazy, selfish. If he cant play with heart for Madrid on a team full of freinds, then I have to question if he should play at all anymore. The Ronaldo of peoples memories is gone, and him at Newcastle would be exactly the wrong type of influence you want on guys like Parker, N'Zogbia, Ermre, etc who are forming a good core to build around.

In my opinion, going young and refitting your whole backline, rather than splashing on some stars who might sell a few shirts would be so much wiser, but im sure thats just common sense to you all (Y)

What a video. So many memorable moments I wanna name, but will pick a select few...

Asprilla arriving in Newcastle in the snow...Albert's chip over the then best keeper in the world to make it 5-0...Beardlsey's dribbles...Shearer's injury...Keegan's rant...

Enough to get to any football fan let alone us toon fans!

We may not have won anything for x-number of years but I don't care, I love supporting newcastle!

There are lots of good strikers around there. Ronaldo is a good signing for any team, his attitude letting. About that i dont know, but i think Kuijt would be a good addition to yer squad. I wish Pool went for him.
