Coco set for Toon talks

Italian international Francesco Coco is in talks with Newcastle about a move to Tyneside.

Coco arrives in England on Thursday to discuss a transfer to St James' Park.

The 28-year-old is surplus to requirements at Internazionale and possible moves to Everton, Ajax and Olympiakos have all failed to materialise.

Now Coco is looking to tie up a switch to Newcastle after Inter gave him permission to talk with The Magpies.

"Francesco Coco is flying into Newcastle from Italy today for talks," confirmed Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd

Manager Graeme Souness wants to bolster his left-sided options and Coco's possible arrival is a likely sign that he is not entirely happy with either Celestine Babayaro or Robbie Elliott.

Babayaro arrived in January from Chelsea and was a replacement for Olivier Bernard, but the Nigerian has failed to live up to his billing.

Elliott is only ever regarded as a squad player, but Aaron Hughes's departure earlier in the summer meant he was pushed up the pecking order.

Hypothetical question for you Newcastle supporters: what would be the last straw that finally gets Souness fired?

in my opinion, its already happened, with fallin out with bellamy, but not all fans agree tht was bad, but it was certainly downfall.

Probably not signing any striker b4 season starts, i go on hols in a few days, bet when i get bk ther will be no- good player signed, if ther is i will be surprised.

Souness wont get sacked this season unless we really, and i mean really start badly.

Adriano, the main reason we haven't brought in a striker yet is that Fat Freddy wont cough up.

Surely they should have moved earlier, it's going to be impossible to get a top striker now that there will be no European football at St. James'.

I say if they go winless in the first 4 games, Souness gets the sack.

I think the lack of transfer activity has more to do with teams holding out for as much as they can get. Let it get nearer the end of the window and i guarantee teams will sell.

i think u guys just dont think about ne thing, the fact that half of u guys r just not newy fans who wanna put their 2 cents in...

what good would sacking souness do? u would put another manager in the exact same position that he was put in last year... its just stupid, and then we'd have to pay compo to him, giving us even less money to spend with the new gaffer...
as toon army said, he wont b sacked, its stupid.. the board may have been daft enuf to appoint him, but they arent stupid enuf to put the club in eva further trouble by appointing another manager so soon... i dont even see whats so bad about souey, bellamy was a twat who only managed to break double figures in the goalscoring charts... once? wow... kluivert was good, but for 2.5 million a year, he didnt play enuf, we couldnt afford to keep him... and robert was truly the most inconsistent player in the league... why do u think he doesnt make the french team? cos he lacks consistency... if he showed his talent week in week out, hed b on the left wing for france evry international...

craig moore i think is a very astute signing, if we get coco, he will prove to b about 100 times beta than babayaro, emre and parker r two of the best signings for newcastle in recent times... and its not like he has tried to replace robert and paddy k/bells
hes tried like hell for anelka, hes tried for boa morte, but as also previously pointed out, the chairman wont cough up the extra dough to give us the signings... hes said he wants owen too, at least hes trying... and as for viduka... well im an aussie, cept ill admit im happy boro wanna keep him, we dont need his rubbish... if we wanted a player who played evry 5th week, we woulda kept kluivert...

well there's my 2 cents... :sb9:

Luque Agrees Terms With Newcastle - Report
8/19/2005 10:56:00 AM
Deportivo La Coruna striker Albert Luque has agreed to join Newcastle, according to reports.
And the two clubs are close to reaching an agreement after Magpies chairman Freddy Shepherd flew to Spain on Thursday for talks over the deal.

Newcastle manager Graeme Souness has been desperate to add more firepower to his squad after losing Craig Bellamy and Patrick Kluivert this summer.

The Toon’s opening bid was said to be around £9 million, just a little short of Depor’s valuation of the player.

Luque, who has agreed a five-year deal with Newcastle, has long been linked with the likes of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Depor president Augusto Cesar Lendoiro has confirmed that talks have taken place but that no deal has yet been reached.

In other news, Emre is out for about 6 weeks, after tearing his hamstring while playing for Turkey.... also Dyer wont play against West Ham, but that will give Milner his chance, which is good news for him, im a big beleiver that this year he'll show us what hes got.... also young Taylor has signed a 4 year deal, good news :hump:
