Highly entertaining game I must say. Newcastle put up a great fight. Barcelona were the better side and save Van Gaal's head for now....

Newcastle really need to sort out their defence. I think it's an uphill task for them to qualify for the next phase now, seeing that their group is so strong. They really need wins home and away against Leverkusen.

They need an experienced central defender in there with the young players such as O'Brien and Griffin.

sounded like newcastle played ok, despite loosing.

i didn't expect a win at barca, however it would have been REALLY nice :)

good that Ameobi scored ;)

nothing we can say really.
Barcelona were the better side, and they showed it.
Newcastle have this nasty habit of going 1-0 very early on in the CL this season which just makes it a montain to climb afterwards.
I'm really annoyed with Ameobi ... sure he scored our goal ... but he just seems to stand around in the penalty area not fighting for the ball ... wheras LuaLua is great.

Anyway I don't like all this posting during the game ... I have this theory in my head that it just jinxes the result. I always wait until the end to post stuff ... (most of the time)
The Ref was really annoying (as always in the CL) whistling for every lousy little contact ... but that's no excuse coz he gave silly freekicks both ways.

Dyer really should have cleared the ball that went in for the third goal. The former Ipswich man was asleep on the post there. Criminal!

yeah I was gonna talk about that.
Barça's third could really really easiky have been avoided !!!
2-1 would have made a much better scoreline.

What the hell was Keiron Dyer standing their on the post watching and doing nothing to get the ball, very dissapointed in him, marking the post and tappin it with his feet, was he distracted? or was he lazy

unlucky Newcastle tbh.

i too am a massive toon supporter....

good result for not having shearer and bellamy. the return match at st james' is gonna be something. prepare for a fight, shearer and bellamy back for sure, maybe even viana?

Any player who isnt cup tied that we sign in the back will help out extremely (correct me if im wrong). But i think we can walk away with a tie in Leverkusen. And our return matches will be something...playing Inter in Milan will be great....shearer and bellamy will play devil's advocate and show them up. I don't doubt it all folks. Hang your heads high! and HOWAY THE LADS....

Not only was Dyer sleeping on the post he was also standing behind the line, so it was pretty pointless for him to guard the post, really. What was he doing? Bobby Robson has the right to fine him.

And as for the experienced central defenders, there really aren't that many around who are not cuptied. Sir Bobby will have his hands full trying to find a new one during January.

If im correct Jaap Stam is staying in Lazio, or he said he wants to go to Man City, srry, can't remember which one, maybe the news said Man City then Stam said hes stayin in Lazio

Stam is too old imo ... want a good defender, and with atleast 3/4 years in him ... no one or two year crap :)
