They did exactly that, and they were lucky not to lose by more. They (Montreal) were alive on height ALONE for the last 10 minutes. Seriously, if their center halves weren't over six feet, that would be a massacre.

Seriously, concede a corner, head it, repeat.

That said, I won't bash them. They got this far on their merit, and it has to be said they did Canada proud.

I tip my hat off to them. Although I didn't watch them play, I did see the highlights and it was an unfortunate turn of events. In the end, they have made the USL proud along with Montreal.

Puerto Rico still has a chance, however slim it is. So a USL team could still win it.

FC Dallas has sold less than 5,000 tickets for it's opener.

I know it's a month away, but that's still worrying. Given the economy, and the location of their stadium (30 miles from the middle of Dallas, 50 from Fort Worth) it's hard to see how they're going to draw good crowds this year.

New York Sign Former-Barca and Madrid Player Celades

Former Barcelona and Real Madrid defender Albert Celades has signed for the New York Red Bulls. Meanwhile, goalie Jon Conway has been cleared to resume training with the club.

The New York Red Bulls have signed Albert Celades, according to soccerbyives.net. The Spanish defensive midfielder/defender comes with no transfer fee attached after being released by Real Zaragoza.

Celades is best known for his roles at Spanish superclubs Barcelona and Real Madrid. After coming through the Barcelona youth system, Celades made over 70 appearances for the club, mostly as a sweeper. After a stint with Celta Vigo, he joined Real Madrid and won two La Liga trophies.

A loan to French club Bordeaux came before he eventually joined Zaragoza.

Red Bull head coach Juan Carlos Osorio evaluated Celades during a trial while the club were in preseason in Argentina. The 33-year-old impressed enough to warrant a contract, and is expected to start in the defensive line for the Major League Soccer club. He will help make up for the loss of defenders Jeff Parke (expansion draft) and Chris Leitch (trade with the San Jose Earthquakes), who departed in the offseason.

Celades signed his contract Tuesday, and is expected to join the club in training on Wednesday.

In other Red Bulls news, goalkeeper Jon Conway has been cleared to train with the club once more. Conway, along with the now-departed Parke, were banned for 10 matches at the end of last season for breaking the league's Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health Policy by testing positive for androstatriendione (ATD) and boldenone metabolites, performance enhancing substances.

Each player has served six matches of the suspension, and has a further four to sit out. However, MLS commissioner Don Garber clarified that Conway may return to training with the club in pre-season. Parke is currently out of contract and pursuing options abroad, including Belgian club RAEC Mons, where he is on trial.

Conway will be available for New York's match against Real Salt Lake on April 18, in Giants Stadium. Danny Ceparo is expected to continue filfilling goalkeeping duties in his absence.

:33vff3o: Great move, we really needed a defensive minded midfielder, and his eperience should be the X factor that will help us get to the promise land once again. Only this time we have to win it.

Seattle really out the starting blocks at full speed. Only saw the highlights but seemed like it was a good game... and a loud one too!

Not a bad game... the product on the field wasn't the prettiest, as is customary for the first game of the season, but the atmosphere was phenomenal for an MLS game. It's only one game, but Seattle are looking very good indeed, and Freddie Ljungberg has yet to play a minute.

I don't know what kind of voodoo Seattle pulled to get Fredy Montero, but this kid is something special. He made the Red Bull defenders look like amateurs (I know, it's RBNY, but still...) I'll be shocked if he's in MLS next season.

Jaqua is a good option up top. Sanna Nyassi has some serious pace and pretty good skill on the right. LeToux plays like the seasoned veteran that he is. Evans isn't going to dazzle anyone, but he'll quietly get the job done, and grab a goal every now and then. Osvaldo Alonso looks like he could become one of the premier central midfielders in MLS.

I'm not completely sold on the defense. Tyrone Marshall is a solid pro and Jhon Hurtado looks like a beast, but the Achilles heel of this team may be the outside backs. There's a reason James Riley keeps getting bounced around in the league, and I feel Zach Scott could be a weak link on the left.

Should be a great season. I think in terms of pure talent, the Fire are the best team in the league. Unfortunately, our two most talented players are geriatrics (Blanco is 36, McBride will be 37 my mid-season) with recurring injury problems. The younger attacking contingent (Mapp, Rolfe, Nyarko, Pappa) may have to raise its game.

FC Dallas 1-3 Chicago Fire

We were **** though, the scoreline is misleading. No cohesion in attack, spotty defending. Dallas looked good, they were just unlucky.
