This is a good question and I've struggled to answer it for myself. Honestly, I don't know. The simple answer is that Nuclear Proliferation is illegal. But you are right, the US has no more of a right to have Nuclear weapons than any other state (including North Korea) does. However, since nuclear weapons being in the hands of someone like Kim Jong Il is not good for the world, even though I believe he has the right to posess those weapons, I think it's terrible.

cause what makes me confused is that Bush says, north korea's nuclear intentions are a threat to USA. sounds reasonable and i honestly agree with him..
but , doesnt the nukes that USA has is a threat to north korea, it looks like vice versa..
i dont like north korea cause they are communists, and i hate communists
but other than that, i really cant see why cant they have nuclear power if
7-8 other nations have nuclear weapon, including pakistan.

Even if Korea used 1 nuclear bomb, the Americans would just blitz them with their own. It really is a no contest. Fight fire with fire. But they do have a right to defend themselves.

You're wrong, China has strong relations with NK and is the only nation Kim Jong Il will take a blind bit of notice of. NK receives a lot lof of aid from China which is why China is reluctant to even condemn NK let alone subscribe to any strong sanctions.

Right now, behind closed doors China is enjoying the West getting their nickers in a twist over NK because it symbolizes an ever increasing shift of power to the East.

China, USA, Russia, Britain , Pakistan and India are the nations that officially recognised to have nuclear weapons. Israel has too, but they havent officially declared it. (This is not what i think, its a fact)
I really doubt China will declare a military campaign againt North Korea, even though they condemn what koreans did, i really dont believe they would ever get involved in a military operation against them, still many chinese has sympathy for northern koreans, even if USA & Japan decides to create a alliance against them, i really dont think China will get involved, and i also believe they will do everything they can to prevent that from happening.

the nuke argument is plausible. in fact, the bigger issue out of this is not the imminence of war but the dispute over whether neighboring nations restricted of nuclear power should develop it for their defense.

It's sad that Iraq was obliterated for possessing much lesser weapons it didn't even have, yet Nth Korea is only threatened with an embargo.

Obviously the Yanks aren't happy because they have no time for Korea when there are more important things to worry about like Syria and their crappy army and Iran which at the current rate will take a couple of decades before they acquire a bomb. But NK does represent a rival ideology to the US (or the remnants of one), and the Americans don't want to see another commie state get nukes, just as they don't want see Muslim states get nukes either (another ideological rival) regardless of whether they have 'crazy dictators' or not.

But if there's one country that would be more pissed off it would be China, they won't be the only east asian country with nukes and Japan, Taiwan and Sth Korea would probably now want one too.

They can only hit Japan, some parts of china and russia with that ****ty bomb. If they wanna hit US they better buy a launchpad in Cuba or develop some Stealth Bombers.

Yeah you're right, in the last four years we have completely changed our policy toward nuclear weapons. We have secretly gone against the numerous treaties we have signed to decrease our nuclear arsenal. The age of the statistics has NOTHING to do with the argument. You were just plain wrong. Number of nukes has decreased since the 70's because of treaties Nixon signed.
