Objective opinion about Fifa 2k4 from a PES fan

This was a very matture and responsable post. Congratulations for it! We ( Fifa Fans ) just hope you have all the fun with PES/WE we have with Fifa !

Let's just think that theres no better and worse game, those are two different games. And it's a question of choise like was said here. If you played both enough to reach a conclusion and say: I prefer this one ( or Both ). Then be happy with your game and enjoy it! Don't lose your precious time writing "This game sucks" here, if you feel like posting then do like this post ! It's from a PES fan and he just made a very good pointing. It's all about words...

I do agree with his opnion in part. Okey, there should be no competition between us Fans. Let's leave competition to EA and Konami. But the main difference that makes me playing FIFA then PES/WE is that:

1- Fifa was the first soccer game i ever played, back in the 94 I belive ( That was the first right ? Good times, remember we could block the punt of the goalie? hehehe ) So i have a kind of feeling that he is part of family.. =)

2 - The aspect I don't agree is gameplay. Not that FIFA or PES gameplay is better, but they are different. I feel PES gameplay with speed too high for soccer. You have one shoot after another, i'ts like a counter-attack party. This is one point why I PREFER. I'm not saying Fifa gameplay is better, but I preffer Fifas gameplay due to it's been slower and more strategic then reflex.

3 - Controls. In Fifa series I can play against a friend, my father or my syster who never played videogames before and still can have a tie fun game. Not that I'm bad but the gameplay is more instintive then the PES one wich allows you to do all movements and ideas you have in mind but you gotta have a full 24/7 per week trainning before a fare competing with the owner of the game.

I believe thats it..
Please PES/Fifa fans feel free to say your opnion, just imagine you are talking about your mama and you should express the right way.

this is something i disagree. dribbling is possible but it is hard to pull off.u can either dribble with sprint, direction, or freestyle. freestyle dribbling is a great feature of the game and there are many combinations.mastering it would add more depth in your gameplay. i spend lotsa time in trainin jus to get my dribbling right(they are like 10+combinations of freestyle). the most wonderful thing i did was goin past 2 defenders using cassano and den executing a 360 deg turn which spun past the goalie.fantastic goal

play against me on WE7 or PES3 and I guarantee you will not get a shot on goal playing end to end tactics...

PES3 is full of midfield possesion play, passing, dribbling etc. just like real football, I have seldom seen an end to end match in my 5 years playing the game, I have often seen 2 shots or no shots all game between gamers who live and breathe football, and PES. If you rush forward and try to get quick shots, you'll get buried on the conter or the positioning of defensive midfielders, it will not work, unless you play with two spanish clubs (which is as realistic as it gets)

There's no problem with speed on PES3, it plays at just the right pace, the same as a televised game of football.

interesting point this one. i played my friend on PES2 a couple of weeks back, his opinion was, he could tell it's a great game, but he prefered fifa, cause he could just pick it up and play. bearing in mind the only time he plays soccer games is when he comes over to my place. but the point is there, in a short time of fifa he can be competitive, he feels PES just takes too much time, and he wasn't able to be competitive and i smashed him.
and like i said and has been mentioned plenty of times, it's a matter of opinion. i like both, and i play both frequently(though i do get the controls mixed up often).

I don't want to get into a PES does this and that arguement. But if we are talking realism a 2 shot and 0 shot games which you see quite often shouldn't happen often. I know it's a videogame and when you paly it long enough you can master the game beucase you know what works and what doesn't.

A true "simulation" should not allow this type of game all that often unless you have a really sloppy game like any MLS game or have some sort of Super German defesne with this year's Arsenal enthusiam *cough cough*.

I'm just saying that PES for all it does great still isn't perfect.

I was a FIFA fan for about 10 years. When it was released in 1994 i had it. I played it with enthuisiasem, but 2004 is the year that i won't buy fifa, but I will buy PES 3.
Pes 3, has very realistic passing, shooting, dribling, and the ball physics (oh my god). GREAT GAME.

Two days ago, i installed fifa on my computer, and uninstalled it two hours ago. ****y movement of players, bad ball physics, bad shooting...

I allways thought that the people who said that WE and PES were better than fifa were retarded, but that changed when I tried PES 3 demo.

I realy think that EA should learn from konami.

P.S. I don'g giva a **** about graphics, if i can't drible, shot, pass like in real life !!!

Partizan had no shots on goal in the first half vs. Real. Estonia had no shots on goal vs. Croatia. It happens, rarely (like in PES3) besides, there's a difference between shots on goal and shots.

That's not the point, in real football, if you can't get the ball past midfield, you will not get any shots on goal, like in PES3. Its real, you've got to work, otherwise they'll shut you down. Its a simulation in the sense that you have to work to get a shot, the AI shouldn't give you shots in order to make the chances realistic. I for one would be extremely dissapointed with a scripted game (*cough cough FIFA*) where the AI decides things for me.

A true "simulation" should let the player decide wheather to shoot or whatever, anything less is unnaceptable !

why is it wrong to compare two competing games? Its only natural, and with one game being so sadly behind I think it should be encouraged so that maybe that developer can learn from the best....no? What would happen if nobody compared? FIFA fans would be extatic with a cheap "improved" version of FIFA2002 (which was probably the worst soccer game ever made)

hang on, I remember when it first came out the FIFA fans were delirious with joy...

The best of both worlds

"FIFA's crap!!"- PES fanboy ...
"PES is rubbish!!"- FIFA fanboy.

Well, I'll have FIFA 2004 tomorrow, and PES 3 next week! Either way, I'm sure I'll enjoy at least one of them! :/

They both have their own strengths and weaknesses...
