Well, that single shows that she's growing up and changing her image as a performer but going the comedy, goofy route rather than the slutty route.

Link? Ytb? I don't listen to the "pop music" that is being played on radio. I'd like to hear this.

I will listen to it... Feedback coming soon. Although it feels like injustice to change this beautiful i'm listening to right now.

Nahh... Sounds too mainstream to me. I mean i can listen to it without the need to change the tune, but it's not something i would willingly listen to. It's not bad.

Well, look, i don't listen to these kinds of songs normally, non the radio "top10" hits blah blah.. So without any knowledge it sounded like some mainstream song, whose audience consists of imbeciles.

Calling a song too mainstream is so douchey. It's a catchy tune, written by musical experts precisely because it triggers a response in people and is likable. If you don't like it because it's not your style is one thing, but to not like it because it sounds 'mainstream', i.e likable, is more about how you want to be percieved than the music itself.

One Direction have some really good songs, for example. People will complain about them and how they represent a movement away from music and towards image creation but most of the people who don't like them are worse criminals because they can't detach the image of the band from the music itself. Admittedly, most pop songs are kind of shit but many of the most popular ones in the genre are catchy and enjoyable.

Yeah i get what you mean, but the particular song is just not for me.

And i'm not some hipster, i love all kinds of music. As long there is melody, (good lyrics etc). (i'd probably add some more to this discussion but i'm fucked).

Spot on.

Too "mainstream" isn't a reason not to like something.

I hate air, because everyone breathes it, it's too mainstream.

You may dislike it because you don't like the style of music, but find adjectives that describe that style. Mainstream isn't one. It's mainstream because it's catch. Mainstream is a consequence not a cause.

Not liking something "because it's mainstream" is trying way too hard to be indie, and follow the hipster crowd...Ironic really.

I love "Shake it Off" by Taylor Swift and as far as I know I do not like a single other song by her.

My current favorite artist is Charli XCX; if you want "too mainstream" listen to this.

Even I'm like "ehhhhhhhhh" on that one and I LOVE her. Especially because she's self styled as "punk pop" (different from pop punk) and it's such pandering to the t(w)een market.
