I am definatly up for taking part in a regular onlien league, but I also want to remind everybody of the reality of this whole project. Even though in theory what has been mentioned could work, in practice it might be a little more difficult.
There are numerous problems that we need to realise and be prepared for before hand. The problems are as follows.
1. Time zone differences and when we play each other.
I presume there will be people from different countries joining this league, but the main problem could be between those in the USA playing those in Europe. So there would need to be set times we have to play each other that is acceptable to both sides of the Atlantic. Also, the time we play another person online is an issue no matter where they live, as obviously who ever is next on your fixture list, you wil need to set a time with them when to play. But what if you both cannot find a good time to play each other ? As lets face it we all have lives to lead to. So we need rules on all of this.
2. Drop outs.
Dont assume everyone will keep with their team. Some will drop out if they are not doing well in the league and some will just lose interest. So we need to plan for this ahead of time. How will we handle this ? What rule should be bring in for when it does happen ?
3. Connection problems.
It is most certain that some games we play there will be issues to do with lag. What if we are playing someone and the game is very very laggy ? Do we have to keep playing regardless or can we both opt to play at a later time ? How wil this be handled ?
4. Game crashes and cheating
What will happen if one persons computer crashes ? We obviously need rules for crashes and replayign games. It can be hard to know if the person who says their computer crashes is telling the truth or lieing. I could be winning by 4 goals and so my opposition decides to be a loser and stop playing, but tells me after it crashed ! How can we encourage fairness and honesty, and how can we prevent such cheating ? Also we need a way in which we report the results. How can we make sure no one cheats ? This all needs considering.
Also do we know absolutely that we wil be able to use our own option files for online playing ? I would not be surprised that when playing pes4 online, we are only allowed to use the default PES4 teams (konami edited teams). It prevents cheating and i can imagine the headache there would be with different people trying to connect to each other, but each has a different option file. It is all fine if you have the same option file, but lets face it not every will, as some wil just be playing casual one off games online, and I imagine Konami will have anticipated this, so I will take a guess they have set online play to only default teams. Hope I am wrong.
