I nominate Carlos van Impe. Good moral man, good credentials, looks good in front of the camera, etc.

I forgot to do in my last post was to say rest in peace - for the first time in a long time I finally got out my roseary beads.

He was a great pope - on Australian television they are playing a documentary on him before he became a pope, what was another amazing thing that he did was when he was elected pope he broke with tradition, when cardinals come to the pope to kiss his hands, his mentor cardinal from Krakow came up to do it, instead John Paul turn the tables and kissed the hands of his mentor and friend.

The previous pope John Paul the first only lasted 34 days.

btw going on from what QuickSilver said (about ranting) its bad luck to speek ill of the dead no matter who they are.

Actually, he was the least conservative of all the popes. Still, some expected him to turn the Catholic Church into some kind of a sect with the basic rules changing according to their wishes. Imagine any other pope or even a typical man of his age attending a rock concert, football match or enjoying a breakedance show. And, at the same time, writing books, treatises and poetry.

How soon will they decide on a new Pope?
I always thought it happened pretty much immediately after the death of a Pope, where they have the white smoke come out of the chimney...right?

I guess the cardinals will have a meeting 15 days after the day the pope died but the voting can take some days... so we'll have a new pope in 20 days or so if I'm not mistaken

With JP2 they held the vatican council joined in 10 days and made a decision on the second night - so it took 2 days but remember it was the second pope to die in that one year. My father said this is the fourth pope he has seen die - he is 53, so they arent known for their longevity.

btw. there is a prophecy which says if black man willl be next Pope, short time after then will be the end of the world; I dunno exactly where it was written ("Quinn from Saba prophecy" or smth??) but media mentioned it few times already; there was written that John Paul II was described as Pope No. 110 and next one (111) will be black and after then will be over..

if anyone has sources of news about it in english drop some links (6)

Mayor so if they don't ever elect a black pope the end of the world will never take place? ;)

The more interesting prophecy is the one from Slowacki's poem about the Slav Pope written in 1848. I say, more interesting, because it became truth.

Posrod niesnaskow Pan Bog uderza
W ogromny dzwon,
Dla slowianskiego oto papieza
Otwarty tron.
Ten przed mieczami tak nie uciecze
Jako ten Wloch,
On smialo, jak Bog, pojdzie na miecze;
Swiat mu – to proch!
Twarz jego, slowem rozpromieniona,
Lampa dla slug,
Za Shifty rosnace pojda plemiona
W swiatlo – gdzie Bog.
Na jego pacierz i rozkazanie
Nie tylko lud –
Jesli rozkaze, to slonce stanie,
Bo moc to cud!
On sie juz zbliza – rozdawca nowy
Globowych sil:
Cofnie sie w zylach pod jego slowy
Krew naszych zyl;
W sercach sie zacznie swiatlosci bozej
Strumienny ruch,
Co mysl pomysli przezen, to stworzy,
Bo moc – to duch.
A trzeba mocy, bysmy ten Panski
Dzwigneli swiat:
Wiec oto idzie papiez slowianski,
Ludowy brat; –
Oto juz leje balsamy swiata
Do naszych lon,
Hufiec aniolow kwiatem umiata
Dla niego tron.
On rozda milosc, jak dzis mocarze
Rozdaja bron,
Sakramentalna moc on pokaze,
Swiat wziawszy w dlon.
Golab mu slowa usty wyleci,
Poniesie wiesc,
Nowine slodka, ze Duch juz swieci
I ma swa czesc;
Niebo sie nad Shifty pieknie otworzy
Z obojga stron,
Bo on na tronie stanal i tworzy
I swiat – i tron.
On przez narody uczyni bratnie,
Wydawszy glos,
Ze duchy pojda w cele ostatnie
Przez ofiar stos;
Moc mu pomoze sakramentalna
Narodow stu,
Moc ta przez duchy bedzie widzialna
Przed trumna tu.
Wszelka z ran swiata wyrzuci zgnilosc,
Robactwo, gad,
Zdrowie przyniesie, rozpali milosc
I zbawi swiat;
Wnetrza kosciolow on powymiata,
Oczysci sien,
Boga pokaze w tworczosci swiata,
Jasno jak dzien

At noon, in churches all over Poland people were holding their hands to show their consolidation with Jan Pawel II.

i've noticed something really strange. When you sum all numbers of the date of the death from John Paul you will have 13. Here: 02.04.2005 = 0+2+0+4+2+0+0+5 = 13... The same with the time of the death: 21:37=2+1+3+7=13... 13 is the number of bad luck... :rolleyes:
