this comparison with Makelele is kind of wrong in my eyes.
Fernandes has much more flair with the ball, better passing, better shot...but he doesn't defend as well, doesn't have the same strength, stamina....

I see Manel becoming a complete midfielder in the future, a pure #8, and that's something Makelele is not.

Mind that I'm not taking anything from Claude, I also rate him as being one of the if not the best DM nowadays.

Adrian Mutu? His only sexual identity crisis was everyone hearing he had a small dingo from that porno star

hahaha :D

Romanian players and the EPL just don't mix well Mutu and Dumitrescu being two examples.

Shifty Petrescu is an exception of course.

:D

But honestly, Southampton FC needed decent defenders to stay up, like what Mark Hughes did at Blackburn, but instead Redknapp bought Olivier Bernard, and Callum Davenport... I mean come on! you're a geordie yourself and should know how much of a liability Bernard was....

The only decent signing he ever got us was Nigel Quashie :nape:

Seems like Portsmouth are now just being linked with anyone and everyone. Saw on Sky that they're looking at Jaaskelainen, get real. There's a big difference between avoiding relegation and moving up to the top half of the table. Throwing money at the problem and grabbing a few decent players is enough to avoid the drop. But getting into a respectable league position takes time, it takes team-building.

I think the problem Redknapp will have is impatience from his benefactors. They will expect to see immediate high-profile signings and improved position in the league. But no amount of money is going to convince quality players to sign with a 17th place club. They can't even renew the contract of Lua Lua; that certainly sends a bad message to potential targets. If Redknapp keeps chasing players the level of Anelka and Fernandes, he's going to find himself having to make a lot of desperate gambles at the end of August. They need to aim lower. Look for continuous improvement, not an overnight transformation. I really think this is a case where slow and steady will win the race.
