There is more opposition than support for such a move. It's not gonna happen, so people can just calm down.
yup, thankfully people haven't gone out of their heads yet, but this plan is absolute bollocks and like mentioned in the papers should've been mentioned on April Fools Day....and i'd just like to have a stab at it XD
1. Think of the players, they have to travel across the globe for matches, which would result in the game being played between 22 jetlagged players, since the fixtures are already congested enough with cup competitions and international duties.
2. Think of the clubs, yes they will all get more money i assume, but would it be fair to clubs outside the top four? think about it, lets say, we have a home fixture for Villa vs Man Utd in Tokyo, we all know how big Man Utd are compared to Villa in terms of fanbase, so its likely going to be the other way around in terms of support. Besides, I doubt that Asian or American fans would want to fill in stadiums just to watch a Bolton vs Derby game.
And also, the fact that some clubs might have to travel a distance much further than some other clubs. Chelsea vs Reading, 24-hour trip to Sydney. Liverpool vs Newcastle, in New York (a mere seven hour flight away). Also, for relegation threatened clubs, £5million from a trip to Asia is scant consolation if your side loses £30million having been relegated as a result of drawing Manchester United or Arsenal out of the hat.
The idea of it is just ludicrous which ever way I to see it, i don't want to see the Premier League turning into a circus(Harlem Globetrotters??). Ok, so its done in America but why should we copy that? Football is a different sport altogether in terms of passion and support. If its going to be played abroad than it wouldn't be a domestic competition anymore. And, what about the local fans who give their support and money week in week out? I'm sure if the Premier League wasn't that big outside England this idea would even be considered at all. Its just rich farts seeing the opportunity to get even richer. Like Harry Redknapp mentioned, football owners were bakers, butchers and etc in the old days, now its not about love for the sport, its about money making business really.
But don't worry, it won't happen. I'm just here to give my opinion on why shouldn't happen. ;D
