Presidential Elections

I watched our Gubernatorial debate instead. The Libertarian Michael Munger pimpslapped Pat McCrory (R) and Bev Perdue (D).

Obama draws over 175,000 people combined in total in a day? Now those are some BIG crowds, not Republicans' enourmous 15-20k.

BTW is it just me or is Bush now trying to do all those things on economy because he feels guilty for completely destroying the reputation of his party in 8 years? He sure didn't seem to care so much about it back in spring.

A North Carolina congressman locked in a tight re-election race admitted Tuesday to recently telling a crowd of John McCain supporters that "liberals hate real Americans," the latest in a string of comments from Republicans that appear to question Democrats' patriotism.

Rep. Robin Hayes, a five-term Republican who has been heavily targeted by Democrats this election cycle, first denied making the remarks, but conceded Monday afternoon that he was accurately quoted.

"After reading it, there is no doubt that it came out completely the wrong way," Hayes said. “I actually was trying to work to keep the crowd as respectful as possible, so this is definitely not what I intended."

The comments came at a McCain rally in Concord, North Carolina Saturday before the Arizona senator or members of his staff had arrived at the event. As first reported by the New York Observer, Hayes said, "Liberals hate real Americans that work and achieve and believe in God."

Hayes also told the raucous crowd to make sure "we don't say something stupid, make sure we don't say something we don't mean," warning the news media would likely distort such remarks.

In his statement Tuesday, Hayes suggested he meant to differentiate between the liberal and conservative philosophies rather than directly impugn the patriotism of his opponents.

"Liberals are advocating higher taxes, which I believe punish success — and they are advocating policies like gay marriage that I feel undermine strong families," he said. "We have a strong difference of opinion about the future of our nation, but obviously this was the wrong way to get that difference of opinion across."

That's like calling somebody a liar, but saying that it wasn't your intention to actually imply that they were liars.

The best part is that there's a chance that the Dem girls will put out. Theocons may look great (sometimes, there are fats everywhere), but they never will.

Heh, Tinklenberg is actually running for Michelle Bachmann's seat in the sixth, my (former) home district.

That money is probably better spent elsewhere, the sixth is VERY conservative. It has to be, to elect someone like Bachmann. I'm a conservative and I still think she's nuts.

EDIT: Just saw that the race is deemed a "virtual tie" at this point. Never thought I'd see that in the sixth. The GOP is really f*cked, isn't it?

Very. In 2012, I'm sure the tide will change and districts like that will all go back to the GOP, but the party is in awful shape right now.

Dear Jesus at both those videos. How do you survive in a country like that?

PS: I've finally got round to watch Michael Moore's Sicko.

Is a revamp of the free-market health system a priority for either of the candidates?

No, not really. It's retarded. When I start being a politician in a few years, it's going to be entirely on health care. If it isn't national in the next 8 years, I'm going to do it for Wisconsin.

Quite comfortably, thanks for asking.

I find it interesting that there's a push for nationalized healthcare in the US at the same time that many European countries are trying to move away from it. I'm not saying the US healthcare system isn't a mess; it's a historical accident that no sane policymaker could have conjured up. But the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

Nationalized healthcare is not the best solution but certainly it is better than what we got now, which is frankly non-existant.....the country is in bad shape, but I am confident we can re-surface....

On other news, Mccain Guarantees a victory on Meet the press....i just dont know :D he's pouring resources into Pennsylvania hoping that he can turn that state (which in Pollster.com average is now 10+ points for Obama) and that has to go along with wins in Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, Nevada, Indiana, Ohio, Florida and Missouri...of all those states Only in Georgia, Indiana and Missouri does Mccain hold a slight lead which in average is actually a statistical tie....

anyway, what was he supposed to say right? "we're going to get trounced!"....
