Presidential Elections

Yeah, I've lost a little bit of respect for McCain over that as well. Complete nonsense. I expect that sort of shameless populism from Clinton, but not from McCain.

Here's what I'm mad about:

Everyone is talking about how Obama needs to tie up the low/middle class white Democratic voters for the general election, which is absolutely true. He needs those people to be President. However, the answer that all the talking heads are supplying is to offer Senator Clinton the Vice Presidency. That is NOT the move! Hillary is those people's choice by default, but she wasn't their candidate; John Edwards was. Obama needs John Edwards on his ticket (or Senator Webb from Virginia), not Hillary Clinton.

Trotsky wouldn't have been caught dead doing something as bourgeois as voting for the state facade of capitalism.
I'm not sure what Trotsky would have done in the context of 21st-century North Carolina.

Probably founded a communally-owned, cooperatively-operated barbecue place. "Porky's Permanent BBQ-tion."

I think you're right.

As a McCain supporter, I would love to see an Obama-Clinton ticket. It's only going to dilute Obama's message of "change" and uniting America. There are few political figures in America that are as divisive and representative of old-fashioned cynical politics as HRC is.

I think you're forgetting Trotsky was a Menshevik for quite a while.

And on-topic: **** the elections, I vote for assassination.

Define quite a while. And for the benefit of everyone else, explain WHY he ceased his involvement with them.

Former Alaska Senator Mike Gravel (D) - 98.61% match

Illinois Senator Barack Obama (D) - 72.22%
New York Senator Hillary Clinton (D) - 61.11%

Texas Representative Ron Paul (R) - 41.67%
Arizona Senator John McCain (R) - 25.00%

huh, interesting..

I think four or seven years - to come to realize the system isn't reformatory. He later wrote that not joining the bolsheviks earlier was his biggest regret.

Precisely. So voting wouldn't have been on the agenda.

So what do you all make of this phenomenon of former Democrats and Republicans running as third-party candidates? A few examples (there's more):

Mike Gravel (former Democratic senator from Alaska, now running as a Libertarian)
Bob Barr (former Republican congressman from Georgia, now running as a Libertarian)
Cynthia McKinney (former Democratic representative from Crazytown, now running as a Green)

To me this seems a little bit like the relationship between MLS and USL First Division. You can't cut it in the big league, so you move down to where the competition level is lower and you'll actually get to play.

Oh, and I just found out that Alan Keyes couldn't even win the Constitution Party nomination. I feel bad for the guy.

damnnn! Was he crushed?

How the hell has Hillary contrived to reinvent herself as the deliverer for Middle Americans and Conservative Demos? If he's this vilified in the Middle class White American community, he's sure gonna have a terribly tough time with McCain, man.

Also, is it true that more than 60% of Clintonites would cross party lines and vote for McCain if Obama was to be nominated? That's really sad and pathetic, man, if that's the case.....that this party has become so divisive, counterproductive and spiteful.

Ok, here's my official endorsement of Mr. Barack Obama, folks.

Clearly, I expect you all to follow suit, of course.

Dear Friends and Fans:

LIke most of you, I've been following the campaign and I have now seen and heard enough to know where I stand. Senator Obama, in my view, is head and shoulders above the rest.

He has the depth, the reflectiveness, and the resilience to be our next President. He speaks to the America I've envisioned in my music for the past 35 years, a generous nation with a citizenry willing to tackle nuanced and complex problems, a country that's interested in its collective destiny and in the potential of its gathered spirit. A place where "...nobody crowds you, and nobody goes it alone."

At the moment, critics have tried to diminish Senator Obama through the exaggeration of certain of his comments and relationships. While these matters are worthy of some discussion, they have been ripped out of the context and fabric of the man's life and vision, so well described in his excellent book, Dreams From My Father, often in order to distract us from discussing the real issues: war and peace, the fight for economic and racial justice, reaffirming our Constitution, and the protection and enhancement of our environment.

After the terrible damage done over the past eight years, a great American reclamation project needs to be undertaken. I believe that Senator Obama is the best candidate to lead that project and to lead us into the 21st Century with a renewed sense of moral purpose and of ourselves as Americans.

Over here on E Street, we're proud to support Obama for President.

I don't believe the number is that high. If that was true, Obama would really be in trouble. It is true, however, that Clinton supporters are more likely to be willing to cross party lines than Obama supporters.
