i congratulate Capello on the title, and on his efforts here. most of us expected a disastrous season, and while it wasnt far from that, we won the league.
the thing is, how much did Capello really do with the team? The defence was as crap as it has always been, what little we gained with 2 DM's we lost alot more in the attack. even in the brilliant run in the end, most of the time his starting eleven didnt perform, having to come back ALOT of times in the second half, when he'd made substitutions.
about the run of wins itself, it really was incredible, on some occasions lucky, but it was imho driven more by the players spirit, after seeing Barca slip up so many times, the team just gained confidence, and that is the most important thing in football. maybe Capello provided that confidence, i dont know what happened.
in my opinion, one of the biggest factors in this season was in Beckham and Ruud. Beckham started playing the way he was supposed to, after he got locked out of the team. Ruud was just in excellent form all season. this again, doesnt have alot to do with Capello.
and for a defensive coach, we sure sucked some balls in defence. Cannavaro for most of the season, Salgado all the time, Helguera in some games, Emerson in alot of games, so many mistakes. And Cannavaro and Emerson were Capello's boys, yet they were one of the worst.
ok this post is a ******* mess, my point is, this season was just unbeliveable, and i dont think Capello would be able to repeat it next season, because this year we were carried by spirit, because the team was really hungry for a title, to repeat this, you need to be playing great, even when not under pressure. i dont think he'd be able to bring that.
and as Crusader said, if Real had not beaten Mallorca, or if Barca hadnt tied Espanyol in the last seconds, what kind of season would this be? pretty bad in retrospective. Knocked out of the CL by Bayern, which was crap as hell, knocked out of Copa del Rey by Betis, who barely avoided relegation this season, and were crap as hell too.
the decision seems stupid, but you have to look at it objectivly.
