Yes, but Ronaldo wasn't that far off. He arguably did more for United in the CL than Messi did for Barca. So you don't have to be blind/very stupid/know nothing about football to think he should've won. I think Mesis deserved it more than him, but there's a very good case for him winning it. Had United won the final, it'd be the other way around, even if he hadn't done anything in the match.

And frankly, I still think Xavi or Iniesta deserved it more than he did.

How do you figure that?

I gotta admit, such discussion would be better in the Barca thread, seeing as how it involves your player and is headed towards him deserving it or not. Having said that, In my opinion, Iniesta is and was a much bigger threat in creating opportunities that always lead to goals. That slump that you went through when we were closing the gap, was when he was out for a few games.

How well Barca played shouldn't affect individual awards. Messi was one of the key figures behind Barca's great run. He was one of many. ManU had less decisive players than Barca last season, and Ronaldo was one of them. Ronaldo won many games on his own for United, and that includes several in the CL (Arsenal, Porto), and I don't even know how many times he won games for United against lesser opposition. How many times did Messi scored the 1-0 winner? How many times did he save Barca from losing points, instead of adding the 3rd or 4th? Not nearly as often as Ronaldo.

Messi deserves the award more than Ronaldo, I'm not arguing that. But to suggest that Ronaldo is miles behind him is dumber than him winning it over Messi. Regardless of how much you hate a player and which team you support, you should be able to recognise a player's contribution to his team. Ronaldo won games for United which Messi never had to do for Barca. I could go on and on as to why that is, but it's pointless.

I'm agree with some of your comments but Messi was great in all high profile matches last year (expect Chelsea) while Ronaldo was not impressing that much.

messi won the matches vs osasuna and the ones vs racing and shaktar starting in the bench, he score in the important matches besides semifinal vs chelbusea, chelsea. (valencia, sevilla, madrid, atletico, bayern, lyon, manchester, athletic in valencia...) but our team always won 4-0,6-1, 97-2, leo has always been more decisive than ronaldo, scores a hat trick vs madrid at age 19.

Just check our scores last season. You'll see why Messi doesn't score the 1-0 winner ;)

Messi scored a fantastic goal vs Osasuna to win it (2-3). remember the double in Donetsk.

Golden Ball is not given just for goals. Otherwhise Canamalo would never had been awarded Golden Ball. Messi is genius on the pitch. He always is where the ball is that's why he scores so many goals and gives so many assists being a wing.

Majestic!

Many people in this world said that Ronaldo is not a big-game player. I have this opinion too. Messi is. El Clasico is the best internal match for a player in the world. Messi used to score so many goals vs. Madrid and the hattrick in Camp Nou at just 19 is incredible for his Palmares. Messi scored in our two finals this season.

Remember what he did in the Cup vs. Atletico. He just won the match himself for us with the Hattrick. That's what I call decisive!

You just can't take the Golden Ball away for the 3rd time from this guy:

P.S: Sorry for so many Barça player videos in Madrid thread!

Wow, I didn't even say anything bad about Messi and the entire Barca platoon is here reciting everything's he done since birth.

To whoever said Ronaldo didn't impress that much last year (can't remember which one of you it was), you must be retarded. And I don't even have to elaborate, surely even Barca fans could contest that. Not as impressive as Messi, maybe, bot not that impressive in general? Please.

And someone said the golden ball isn't given for goals, which should be true. And yet most of the things said in Messi's favor are his goals. And that's why he'll win this year. There are 3 requisites to winning the award, and they are: Winning the CL, scoring your fair share of goals (best if done in important CL matches), and being flashy. Messi, Ronaldo, Kaka and the last one before the trend started was Cannavaro who won the World Cup.

And I'll make my last point clear, in the CL, which is the only competition that matters here, Ronaldo saved ManU more than Messi did for Barcelona. Is there even an argument here? The only game Messi saved Barca in the CL was against Shaktar in the group stages. Ronaldo won the games against Porto and Arsenal.

And before I get another tirade of Messi-loving. For ****'s sake I agree that he deserves the award, I was contesting buti's point, one which he has withdrawn/softened.

That would be the simple minded kb40.. Although, kind of puzzling seeing as how he played for the team he supports last season and he should know how well he actually did for his team. Yet, the fact that he calls him "gaynaldo" may mean that there is some bitterness there...

I never said Gaynaldo didn't impress last season but Messi played in much higher level last season, Christina's still the second or third best in my book.

well, many players left United in years but I didn't like the way Gaynaldo did it. He told press one day that he's staying, the other day he wanted to fulfill his dream move, then he wanted to break Giggs appearance record and ....

He wasn't honest to United fans ... anyway, he was a great great player maybe one of the best in United's history ... but as a player he's one arrogant annoying SOB.

He didn't respect us so why should we respect him?

Oh shut up, you are equally as a chick, notice how most of us have left the discussion and you're still going on, move on!

Why would I leave a discussion? It wasn't even an argument, it was a discussion. And this is a forum, you abstaining from replying to a thread for less than 24 hours doesn't constitute anything.

But please, tell me how my replying to the posts in this thread show that I am a chick. Go ahead.
