We all know Brazilian football is a joke, but the media is mad about Romario's "1000th goal", scored last night against Sport Recife at Vasco da Gama's stadium.

Ok, he's a legend, a top class striker, no one can say he wasn't at least above average when it comes to scoring goals. But counting youth team goals and ones scored against "Luisinho's friends XI" just to get to the 1000 mark is too much.

No doubt Romari is one of the best strikers of his generation, i really looked up to him its sad that people are not taking him seriously and not giving him credit. i read an article a while back saying that he scored some goals in unofficial games and non competitive friendlies which he added to his tally the media is really giving him allot of crap which is not fair.

lol I never heard such thing. If that's so then I possibly have scored 300 when I was playing in my school team, since I first joined when I was 10 or something.

I think this is pathetic, I mean what's the point? I'm guessing everyone reckons Romario is clearly a football legend and one of the best forwards, to go to the extend where those charity matches goals count.. He doesn't need this.

Congratulations. But in fact he only scored 500 in regular competitions.

Actually, counting only official tournaments Romario scored around 715, and he can beat Pele on that, as Pele scored 720.

The Legend
It was hilarious when he played for Miami, one match they were so desperate to get him a goal they let Puerto Rico come back from 3-1 down to win.

Heh, Vasco got kicked out of Rio State Championship and the Brazilian Cup after Romario scored his "999th", both against much worse opposition, as his team mates wanted him to score. The coach couldn't sub him off, the players wouldn't take a shot from outside the box...
