Loads of reporters invaded the pitch to interview him, his mom, his dad and his little daughter, who were all in the pitch as well.....

Based on what I saw of him in Australia the only explanation I can come up with for him still getting goals would be if your statement is just as accurate with "opponents" in place of "team mates"

I'm not really sure, but then again, you have someone who is 40 in the box and someone who is 20 playing alongside him. The 40 years old won't move, won't track back and will basically be sitting on his arse all match long, while the 20 years old is trying to impress. The defence will pay more attention to the 20 years old, no doubt about it.

Romario gets his goals on rebounds and positioning alone, while still using his great goal scoring ability, but the hard work is done by someone else. When people decided they'd put some pressure on him, as they didn't want Romario to score #1000 on them, he was quite crap and nowhere to be seen...
