- Ronaldinho the Best - yet not a Legend?

Mourinho’s Assistant
Will never be at Pele or Maradonas level.

Not until he has a problem getting it up or gets addicted to coke or something.

Its true, he has to reach Maradonas levels on all fronts

Ronaldinho plays more like Maradona than like Pele...

Im excited to see what he can do in the WC 2006.

For example Zidane showed why he was the greatest in France 98, Ronaldinho has his chance in the next WC.

IMO the next WC will show the best football in the last 10 years...

Ronaldinho surely is legend already in terms of skill and showmanship, just like Best who couldn't have an international success and Cruyff who was unlucky also. Zico is considered a legend, but he haven't won WC and he has only played in Brazilian league if i'm not mistaking.

I disagree with those who said that he's just better than anyone else in today's football, but not revolutionary like Pele and Maradona. Henry, Baggio, Ronaldo are in all time top 20-30 of course, but I never enjoyed watching them in action to a such extent as I (and many of you probably) do in case of Ronnie. A lot of stuff he does has never been seen before and it's not just random tricks once in the while, he does it in almost EVERY match and not just for showing off like C.Ronaldo and whonot.

I haven't seen 2-3 top class defenders freezed on spot and not daring to even try and tackle a man standing in front of them for a 10-15 seconds and not even making any fints. Scenes like that i've only seen in videos from 60's and 70's when likes of Garrincha, Pele and Rivellino did their mesmerizing stuff on poor oponents.
Now, considering how physicall, fast and defensive football has became, seeing such unbelievable dribbles, shots, pases done with such a witty attitude and ease is something truly magic. We are relly lucky to be able to witness it live.

If Ronaldinho won't fall below he's standart in WC or in next few years in general, he will be alongside with Pele and Maradona without a doubt. Umm.. no, he will be anyway in my book.

Very well said, Gnidrologist.

I 1000% agree with your point that we enjoy watching Ronnie play. He is great at dribbling, passing and long-shooting. Not only showing off, but really useful skills like his no-look pass. He uses his wonderful skills together with his wonderful mind to play every match. He knows when he should accelerate, when he should dribble, when he should pass, when he should do anything. Thats what we call decision perhaps.

For me, Zidane and Ronaldinho are the true masters of football. I am not saying that Maradona and Pele and other great legends are not good, but I was negative years old when they were playing football.

of all the most recent great players to come around I'd agree that Zidane will definitely become a legend when he retires. I'd disagree with you when you say that Zidane is the only one of the past 15 years to be a legend. Baggio would be one if he had made the pk and Italy had won, considering all he did that world cup. Then there's Romario who's performance in the 94 world cup can never be forgotten, not to mention the goal scoring machine he is. Ronaldo had his few years of brilliance before his injuries but he's still a decent striker and another world cup could secure his spot. Lastly I think Maldini is worthy of legendary status, his only fault is never winning an international title.

Ronaldinho is definitely on his way to becoming a legend and honestly all it would take would be a brilliant performance in the upcoming world cup and a few more years at the very top.

Romario isn't even at Ronaldo's level. Sure he is a great goal-scorer, and he did win the WC with Brazil, but the thing with Legends is that they are absolutely awesome but also make those around them play better (and that is not just in football, but other sports also). Pele, Maradona, Cruyff, Zidane, Ronaldinho, etc., all of them shine on their own right but help the team mates to be better players and, ultimately, that is why they win, that is why they are legends.
Romario is more interested in being the best than winning games. He was a trouble maker at Barça, and if he was slightly interested in his team he would have shut the hell up and play for the team. Furthermore, Dunga was the leader of that team, period.
(I also mentioned Baggio, btw)

Indeed, you don't have to win a WC to be a Legend. But you most definitely have to win and be successful. Best was european champion, won several league titles, best player awards, etc., same for Cruyff. This is a cliche but still true: without your team you are nothing. That is the core of the game: working together to defeat a foe.

Ronaldinho is'nt a legend - yet. Because for me, a player can only become a legend when he finishes his playing career, when we can reflect back on it.

For now, I'm satisfied to watch Ronaldinho light up the world of football.

Matthew le Tissier, an England midfielder, played for Southampton. He rejected offers from clubs like Juventus during his peak, because of his loyalty and love to his club. Rare attitude to be found in modern English football. He fights relegation battle after another during his Southampton years. By the time he retired, he was considered to be one of the legends of the EPL by the fans of English football.

Not the same level as Maradona and such, but anyone who follows the England League from the late 80`s will surely remember that guy, and for Southampton fans particularly.

He needs to lead Barca and Brazil to several successes. In the end if there doesn't happen anything **** to him(like breaking a leg or even worse) he'll be up there with Pele and Maradona but never as high as Cruijff (H) .

Ronaldinho won't become an arrogant smartass football analyst after his career so he won't surpass Cruyff and the Kaiser.

I don't think you can be a legend if you are still doing what it is that you are being praised for, there is a rule about it somewhere...

In my honest opinion, I think the reason some people see Ronaldo as a legend is because he is no where near as amazing as he was back in the day,we really aren't going to be as amazed by him now as we were back then.

LEGEND! Well mentioned. He won goal of the season two years in a row. Scored so many ludicrously good goals. He could have been an all time great with his talent (just look at the goals, and quantity of them from a midfield role in a **** team). I am a fan of entertaining football and great goals, and he is one of the best ever at that. It is a shame he never won anything, but just look at the video clips. Stunning.

Matthew Le Tissier was a very very good player in a very mediocre teams and at times he was considered to have single-handedly kept Southampton in the Premiership.

Now that he is retired, Southampton have fallen from English top division of football.

His goal against Blackburn, whereby he mesmerised three defenders before chipping Bobby Mimms from about 35 yards, was truly sensational. Specialising in long range strikes, other memorable goals include the last-ever goal at the Dell, whereby he struck the ball so hard I thought the net was going to rip and the supporters behind the goal were going to have to be stretchered off.

By pure talent alone he is no way in the same league as Pele, Cruyff, Maradona, etc., but he does deserve a mention.

Just don't mention his England 'career'. :P

it was soo fitting for Le Tis to get the last ever goal in the Dell.

Ronaldinho will become the best ever, he still has the best years to come. Very few players have you glued to the t.v. like he does.
