Ronaldinho plays more like Maradona than like Pele...

Im excited to see what he can do in the WC 2006.

For example Zidane showed why he was the greatest in France 98, Ronaldinho has his chance in the next WC.

IMO the next WC will show the best football in the last 10 years...

Riquelme
Ronaldinho
Henry
Ballack
Rooney..

oh, and your lover boy, Crespo.

Matthew le Tissier, an England midfielder, played for Southampton. He rejected offers from clubs like Juventus during his peak, because of his loyalty and love to his club. Rare attitude to be found in modern English football. He fights relegation battle after another during his Southampton years. By the time he retired, he was considered to be one of the legends of the EPL by the fans of English football.

Not the same level as Maradona and such, but anyone who follows the England League from the late 80`s will surely remember that guy, and for Southampton fans particularly.

You are right: that is not even near the level of Maradona and such. He is a Southampton legend, maybe a late 80's EPL legend, but not a world legend. That is what I, at least, was talking about.

Ronaldinho is very much the real deal.

The more time passes on from his goal against England in the 2002 WC, the more you're convinced he meant it.

he is bound to score a wonder goal in a high profile match that will be remembered forever. everyone remembers van basten's goal, maradonna's brace against england, cryuff and that penalty etc.

I think that it's unfair to compare Ronaldinho, Zidane, Ronaldo, Baggio, Romario etc. with Maradona and Pele because todays football has way different tactics than "those times". Todays football has way different offensive, defensive and midfield tactics - in other words - harder. I mean, when I watch tapes of Maradona and Pele, I really must admit that there was literarry no defence tactics. And when I watch Zidane, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo - they do all that - with thick, hard and efficient defensive tactics.

You can say whatever you want, but the real masters of football are Zidane, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Baggio and Romario.

Pele debut was arround 1956 and he retired in 1975.

Maradona debut was on 1976 he retired in 1997.

What you mean by ''those times'' , are very different times...

The tactics saw on the WC of 1986, for example, are similar to todays tactics...of course the speed was different, but i tell you that the calcio in the Maradona years was extremly hard and violent...

First you have the Di Stefano years, then the Pele years, then the Cruyff years and then the Maradona years...a little history...

And the Ronaldinho years is right now...so lets enjoy...

that's because you only watch highlights.

Defenders were much thougher when Pele played football, they used to go for the legs, remember there were NO CARDS till 1970, so going for the best player of the opposing team and try to injure him was a common practice among defenders back in the 60's.

There are also much better practice conditions, equipment that makes it easier for you to to handle the ball now than there were back then. Even the injuries... it's much easier to recover from an injury with the medicall means we have now than with what they had back then.

I saw an interview with Eusebio and Pele together at some football show and they were asked by the interviewer if they thought they'd score as many goals now in the modern football that they scored back in the 60's and 70's.

They thought for a few seconds and Pele answered something like:
"Well that's funny because everytime we are together we spend hours discussing that subject, and the conclusion we always reach is, without meaning to sound arrogant, that we'd score more"

The ball was heavier, the pitch was awful, the goalkeepers didnt wear gloves, and so on...it was almost a different sport...

I always felt that the other players from the brazil of 1970 were in some cases better than Pele...thats my opinion, of course...

Well ball technology has changed significantly even in the last 10 years, and in more ways than just weight. That's all irrelevant though, it's still round, skill is skill. They also grew beautiful lawns in ancient Rome and Greece, you're telling us they couldn't do that in the 60's? :|
