Rudest footballer?

This evening I was at a game in my neighbourhood where Iceland U21 played Bulgaria U21. Seated behind me was none other than Hristo Stoichkov, famous footballer and the current coach of the Bulgarian nationalside. I asked him for his autograph but he just looked at me as I pointed my pen and paper towards him and then looked straight up in the air like he was avoiding me. There was nothing going on at the pitch and I was the only one who asked him for his autograph the whole match. Iceland won 3 - 1 and luckily the Icelandic nationalside coaches were seated next to me and Eiður Guðjohnsen was right in front of me. I got their autographs - no problem. Still I think this was a very rude performance by Hristo. Does anyone have a story similuar to this?

Non-soccer related: I tried to get Darrell Armstrong's autograph when he was on fire with the Magic, but I was promptley denied.

I cant believe some people do that, if I ever made it as a footballer i'd always sign autographs. I know it's easier said than done, but damn, your job is to play football.. How good is that.

autographs is part of the job.. they are rich, famous and live a good live because of the people that idolize them and want their autographs.

Ricardo Sá Pinto refused to give me an autograph because I was wearing a Benfica shirt. A few meters ahead he gave an autograph to a friend of mine (who was wearing a Sporting jersey). This happened during a NT concentration. I've hated him so much since then... you can't imagine.

And once, I found José Soares, a former Benfica player (a usual substitute), in a local coffee shop near my home, and I addressed him to ask him for his autograph, and he gave it to me. We even talked about football, in general. The conversation ended with me wishing him the best of luck to his career. A very nice guy indeed.

Conclusion: The more famous, the more arrogant.

Unlike singers or actors, football players earn their fame and respect performing. They don't get paid for sign an autograph, yes it cool when you ask for one, and the guy do it.

But us (the fans) don't make a player better just because we idolize a player. Its good that they can sign some jerseys or take pictures and stuff like that, but its not mandatory for a player to do that, unless the club told you so.

I got Valderrama's autograph once, he's a pretty cool guy. I almost see him on a regular basis. He's a regular here in Florida. My mom sees him at clubs, too.

The fact people are paid for kicking a ball around is beyond me anyway. Also Footballers get paid more than doctors, scientists etc who can change the world. Footballers have an easy life. if they can't be bothered to sign autographs they should be docked pay.

It's just how he said no. He didn't use any words. He sat right behind me, and when I looked up to ask him for an autograph he was already looking at me like he was just waiting for me to pop the question. As soon as I asked he took his eyes off me and stared into the skies.

Well... I have an autograph story, but it's a great one, with a great man and great player

does anyone know Litos, former Boavista captain (when we became champions in 2001), played for the Portuguese 96 Olimpic Team, and currently CB for Malaga?

Well, in his younger days, while he was rising in Boavista, he was one of my favourite players, coz he was strong, fast, had great confidence and leadership! Only 22 years old and already an undoubtful starter in Boavista's defence.... I once met him in Boavista's Cafe, in the old Bessa stadium... I was 9 back then... I bought a small calendar of him (in the Cafe they were selling them, with each player), and took it to him so he'd sign it...

(for non-portuguese users it says "For Manuel, a hug from your friend Litos)

It should be mandatory, I mean, they become popular because of people...If no one watched soccer on tv or went to the stadiums to see them run after a ball then soccer players would not have the salaries that they do...They really need to pay respect to the fans that follow them, and plus, how hard is it to sign a couple of autographs for the millions that they get paid...geez:kader:

yes because all the merchandise, ticket sells and all that stuff.. which allows clubs to pay their very high salaries are sold to no one I guess?

you and i, go to the stadiums cause we want to. Buy the jerseys because of the clubs and the players we like most. BUT just because we spent our money on one club or one player, do we automatically have the right to ask every single player every single time, for an autograph ? I don't think to be honest.

We may feel like, we do, because the least they can do is that, cause we spent our money on them, but its not like we sign a contract that allows you to DEMAND an autograph.

Again that's my opinion and my intention is not to change yours or anyone else here. I think that if the playe do it, great... but if they don't, we shouldn't say he's the worst player on earth.

Alan Smith needs to have his little skinny arse kicked.. I can`t stand that s.o.b. Rooney too. He always wanted to be a tough guy during Euro 2004. He is only 18yrs old lil' f0ker.

There are ways and ways of doing things.. asking a footballer an autograph when he is by himself watching a football match, shouldn't be that big an issue..to do what Histro did and ignore the fellow without even saying, not now, or whatever.. obviously if I go to dinner and see a famous footballer in the bathroom taking a piss I am not going to ask for an autograph or when they are out with their families or whatever...
