Unlike singers or actors, football players earn their fame and respect performing. They don't get paid for sign an autograph, yes it cool when you ask for one, and the guy do it.

But us (the fans) don't make a player better just because we idolize a player. Its good that they can sign some jerseys or take pictures and stuff like that, but its not mandatory for a player to do that, unless the club told you so.

Singers earn their fame making albums and performing live. Actors earn their fame for performing well in movies, and tele shows. Both arent paid to signing autographs aswell, so what's your point?

i agree on the with you on that, there are ways. And yeah Hristo is a dickhead, but you can blame him 'cause that is his personality. Although you won't ask a player for an autograph on those situation, which are very resonable, but there are others who won't care about that, and will try again and again for an autograph, which is sad, 'cause that only hurts the relationship fans-players :(

An actor gets pay for a tele show cause people watch TV (tv ratings), a singer becasue people buy their albums (radio stations). A club with the help of sponsors, pays for players, but they don't need the help of the people to be successful, if you don't watch a TV program, the show ends, the actors are fired, the actors MAY not be that good. A footballer just need their skills to be recognize. They don't need cameras, musicians, effects to be great.

Anyone remember Juskowiak from VFL Wolfsburg :p Probably only Bundesliga fans, but anyway...

I got autographs and pictures with the whole Polish NT, but Juskowiak of course had to act like a big star, which he even wasn't anymore at that point. He refused to pose for a picture and wouldn't sign my autograph sheet, he gave out those player cards printed by Wolfsburg. It was after a game and there was a ****load of people, all the players were tired, but everyone happily signed and posed except for Juskowiak.

i m not as lucky as all of you to have a chance to ask for a autograph from my idols or any players... :(

it is very good to have their autographs and pictures with you in it. but thats great to talk with a player and talk about football or any other things with him! :D

BTW, AS Roma from Italy will most likely come to Hong Kong in June 2005 to play in a match celebrating Hong Kong Football Association found 90 years anniversary.

Winston Bogarde (for those who remember him...) is the person you'd think of as an asshole. But he's one of the nicest guys and he gave me his autograph. But that was like 8 years ago. Good times, good times.

I think that's bad logic. Footballers may not need cameras, musicians, and effects to be great footballers. But DeNiro doesn't need any of those things to be a great actor, and Prince doesn't need them to be a great musician. The similarity is without fans DeNiro is a broke great actor, Prince is a great broke musician, and Nedved is a great broke football player. You say players make money from sponsorship, but why do sponsors get behind a team? Because people watch the game and see the sponsor logo!. A team of degenerate assclowns will have no fans and thus no sponsors (Man U being the exception). Now I'm not saying athletes always have to drop everything and sign autographs. But sports is a form of entertainment, making the players no different in their relationship to the fans than musicians or actors.

Yeah, an actor gets paid for a tele show because people watch TV, and that's why he needs to perform, if he sucks that wouldnt do good, would it? Just look at those comedy shows that dont last a year. Club's need help of people to be successful, otherwise they wouldnt have stadiums.

Footballers need their skills and people. When he's hated by people at his club, he's likely to fail. You see that happening all of the time, if they dont have support they end up struggling. It's like entering the pitch and the fans from your own club starting to boo you. I'm not saying footballers are obligated to give an autograph, but it helps to build their image and relatioships with fans.

There are some moments were he isnt able to give those autographs, but still, getting a freaking pen and writing your name on a god damn paper shouldnt be something so hard to do.

We as fans contribute to thier wages and the financial stability of the club.

So yes, they should be able to sign a piece of paper.

I have a good story:

Once I was at the Arena (Atlético Paranaense's stadium), in the Arena Store (where they sell stuff, obviously). I was going to buy the team's jersey, when a kid came to me with a photo of Adriano (former Atlético Paranaense and Olympique Marseille & Brazil NT player) and a pen:

"Adriano? Can you give me your autograph?"

I told the kid I wasn't him, but he insisted I was him and started:

"You are Adriano! Adriano won't give me an autograph!"

I have nothing to do with him! What was that kid thinking about? The problem is that some people heard him saying "Adriano" and started staring at me and walking in my direction! Then I ran from the store, got in the car and told my dad to please let us out of there and that I'd buy the shirt later.

Because of that I was called for all high school years "Gabirú" (Adriano's nickname; I don't know what it means).

I just posted my opinion, and he had very good arguments, and of course, there will be exceptions as everything in life.

I don't think nobody here won this "argument" since i only posted what i think, and he replied what he thinks, which is pretty good and i respect his point of view.

This evening I was at a game in my neighbourhood where Iceland U21 played Bulgaria U21. Seated behind me was none other than Hristo Stoichkov, famous footballer and the current coach of the Bulgarian nationalside. I asked him for his autograph but he just looked at me as I pointed my pen and paper towards him and then looked straight up in the air like he was avoiding me. There was nothing going on at the pitch and I was the only one who asked him for his autograph the whole match. Iceland won 3 - 1 and luckily the Icelandic nationalside coaches were seated next to me and Eiður Guðjohnsen was right in front of me. I got their autographs - no problem. Still I think this was a very rude performance by Hristo. Does anyone have a story similuar to this?
Stoichkov = LEGEND (H) (Y)

He's really generous to Barca fans and Bulgarian fans. But he could give a f*ck about anyone else. Hristo is the man who turned being an asshole into an art form.
