SG's Best FM Player

Ok this seems like a nice bitchy idea to make everyone bitter and angry at each other....

Vote for who you consider to be SG's most talented FM player.

You can base this on performance in the succession games as well as what you have read in their game threads, and any advice and suggestions they have posted in other threads.

Have only included recently active posters, so no Ruud, Daz etc, even though they would probably win....

I forgot how people did in the succession game but I remember in respective threads Shifty/Az/Alex as being good. But with sounding cocky given preparation I can be considered one of the best because I have vast experience by trying a lot of different types of games and things out over the many years I have played. I have a very large understanding of attributes and their impact on the game. Tactically I'm good but could be better. Scouting wise and transfer wise I consider my-self good, I like figuring out the best deal/talent. I'm also good at managing a team's finances by calculating the loss/profit of club decisions and I'm great at setting up a good staff program (in the Chelmsford game I increased the staff star-ratings by a lot). You can hold it against me that I've used downloadable tactics and fm scout but these things have only improved my knowledge of the game (and playing it without these aids). I consider player rotations one of my strengths as well. Like I rarely get the "player is upset with playing time" message because I'm thinking 2 steps ahead and move the player if they are not needed or more importantly don't buy them in the first place. I'm also good at fielding the right amount of talent + prospects in order to edge out the win and improve players. In terms of motivating I'm pretty good at keeping club morale high as well. I avoid using the press too much since I don't want to ruin a good thing.

One of the little things I do is also strategically plan friendlies in order to make sure all players at the club are match fit and ready for a game if they are called upon. I also plan ahead of time which players to play and substitute in order to keep them fresh if I need them in the next games. I look at the schedule to pre-plan this.

If not me than Shifty because I know he has a different approach to FM than me and may do some things differently which poses a threat. I probably consider him better than me tactically but in the other areas I would say I'm better (I don't know his style too much though so this is just an assumption).

Now to be mean I think Sir_Didier_Drogba is not too good based on some of his posts, although his results with Blackpool aren't bad and skip is new and made a lot of mistakes reading from his thread. Same with sean denny. I think the thing differentiating the decent from the great is making sure you are great in all areas of the game not just a few. Like Sir_Didier_Drogba is decent with player buying and tactics but I have a feeling he overlooks the long term planning for the club. Like he buys too many players and doesn't know their role at the club. Every player I bring in has a purpose and a plan is in place on how much he will be playing.

Actually I forgot Fili, other than me I consider him the best because he's had the most impressive results. I won't vote for me so I'll give it to him. I know Ruud, Juventino, Pizarro, and Daz are all decent too.

Haha yeah I only put myself in as a joke....... I am ****...... though I have updated my thread and as you can see have done pretty well with Blackpool. But yeah you pretty much got my number, I have a very casual, short term attitude - I spend a lot of money, buy more players than I need, dont spend a lot of time scouting, dont really take proper care of my training schedules etc etc.....

I think my vote will probably be for Mandieta6....... he seems to have a real patient, academic approach to FM....... El Profesor

I do think you are good though, Horatiu! Shifty seems very good too, especially at scouting players, and Alex seems to have done well in the succession games. A lot of talent here!

I said Az. He seems to really do the details, which at the end of they day is what FM is all about.

I think a few of us win games, scout well etc, but for consistently getting the detail right (except Munoz) Az probably has us covered.

Horatiu. He seems to know the mechanics and has experimented a lot with tactics. In terms of tactics I like Fili, since he seems to know his stuff despite going completely different routes to mine, but I prefer the way Horatiu plays (based on his thread).

Yeah, Horatiu was definitely an honourable mention for me. Knows the game so well as far as what effects what.

I get the vote from the person everyone thinks is the best so I win.

Most of my tactical experimentations have failed btw, but it did teach me the importance of effectiveness.

Oh please. Is anyone NOT voting for themselves? (H)

EDIT: Haha, thanks for the vote Horatiu! If I saw that before I voted for myself I'd voted for you :D

Actually, I don't remember a BAD FM player here. skip is obviously the noobest of us all, but he's getting there (Y)

On a more "serious" note, I do like Horatiu's experimental tactical approach. Az of course is probably the more hands-on of us all, and Shifty always likes to win everything with Shakhtar, so it's fun. I like how we all have different styles of saves. Alex (speaking from the succession game) knows the game's intricacies very well, too! Juventino's saves are always fun to read as well, he's persistent as ****. Max is good too, always seems to want to bring an Ajax approach to the saves (Y) Speaking of dutchmen, Ruud also has a doctorate in FM, although he doesn't seem to be playing much these days (or at least not posting about it), and I remember Tom being an old-school FMer, as well!

I was actually thinking about this over the last couple of weeks. It's Fili, and I'm not sure it's all that close. I don't know how he does it, but he just seems to be in a different class than the rest of us. At least, that's how I see it.

I wouldn't vote for myself just because I don't think I'd win an online game. I see the level of skill at SG as being extremely high; there isn't anyone at thedugout that I think is as good as a few of us here. I guess I don't read their reports as thoroughly though, so maybe I'm wrong.

Hellooooo I won three well-documented Champions League titles with DUKLA PRAGUE. :browsmiley:

To be fair, I'm a fairly casual manager. Over the years I've tried many games and I've made many teams a lot better, but every time I try to spend more time on details I'm getting bored. I just like assembling teams with a certain identity (which usually just happens), win prizes, and not think about it too much. I'm by no means a FM expert.

Chelmsford isn't a great indicator in my opinion. The sugar daddy made it ridiculously easy. It was a fun game, but it didn't takes a genius to win with those resources. Almost any star in the game could be bought, year after year, and it made tactics less and less important in my opinion. It was more about ****s and giggles. Besides, Horatiu spent his season on holiday, so I won't even consider him. ;)

I always enjoy reading Fili's and Shifty*i's updates, so I'll go with them. Nobody really sticks out for me.

I like Juve's threads maybe it's just the fun stories or the pictures I just enjoy his adventures, the Dukla Prague saga was one of my favorite.

Cool! Thanks :) Yeah, that's what I enjoy the most, imagining a world around it, creating stars... Just having fun. I prefer that too tactical debates.

How do you guys know this? I did, but how can you tell?

A little off topic but I'll get it off my chest. The reason I did that was because Shifty was being extremely annoying and as I was going through the season I remember I was in November or something... enjoying the game, doing well with my style of playing but he kept asking me when are you going to get it done, and to hurry up. So because of this I wasn't able to enjoy the game and holidayed through it to get it over with. I never tried it again because of this too... I thought, what's the point?

It's the only time Shifty has annoyed me on this forum. To make it even worse I remember I revived the thread because I came back to SG, saw how cool the thread was and wanted to play it too. No one played it in months if I remember correctly, so what I should have done is played it at my own pace and posted it all when I finished instead of announcing it and then have people getting on my case. And it's not like I was super slow, I just didn't get it done in a week like how Shifty thinks is mandatory and normal, it would have taken me 2-3 weeks max.

I'm utterly disappointed I'm not in the list.

That put aside, I'd say the best FM player here is Fili. He seems to massively overachieve with every club he takes command of. :-)

I took over after you and there were hundreds of unread news items. I then checked to see how many days Pablito spent on holiday (it's in the manager profile) and it suddenly had hundreds of days more.
