Regarding thedugout, there are a handful of guys there who I'd say are better than several of us put together, but in general, I think we could take on a bunch of them. The Dugout has more FM-focused members, so there's more noobs.

How do you guys know this? I did, but how can you tell?

I actually didn't notice it when I went back through the thread a few days ago, but you admitted it somewhere on this forum.

About the rest of the post... tell me to **** off and play at your own pace!

Yeah I should have. I actually re-read the thread where you told me to hurry and it wasn't that bad but for some reason I was really sensitive to it.

After FM09 I understood the real meaning of really being in the game and understand your away and home philosophy. A big influence would have to be TOM. It's funny I have a hard way of explaining people how to play this game because they don't understand it. Fili, Daz, and crazy Shifty.

I used to be ridic back in the EA Sports FM days, from 1999-2002 :

3D match engines, multiple decade saves -- ah the good ol' days ... but after transitioning to CM in 02/03, my only FM saves since are Roma (CL), Italy (EURO, WC), and Zed (AFCON, Confed) in FM 2011 ... wish I had more time to play a proper club save :-( ...

hard to pick between Shifty, Az, and Fili, and in terms of knowledge of the FM game engine ... I'd have to give knowledge of training, mentoring, and such to Az ... in terms of entertainment, Jeroen's Dukla thread is legendary!

Juve definitely gets the prize for best story teller.

I disagree Shifty, regarding Fili. I think he is a good player, like quite a few people here, but I'm not sure he's the best. What really stands out to me, is the lack of rotation in his season, which is fine for a one off, but not for future seasons. That said, tactically he was as good as anyone really, but that's only part of the game.

And I was still first to win every game :P hehe, my defence actually let me down that year, but damn they scored some goals!!

That was the year Sarti played like 20 games and scored 30 goals or something stupid. And big target man guy (whose name I've suddenly forgotten) got league golden boot with only 19 games (I think)

Was just wondering why I've never had a FM thread here. Then I remembered how boring my updates are in other threads, and think whilst I play interesting games, best I don't have a thread! :P

Hahahaha, I don't think that has anything to FM ability though. It's annoying in a succession game, but in a Fili-only game I would expect him to build his squad around that tendency.

Not an excuse obviously, but in my defense I don't usually have a squad so big in my own games as we did in Chelmsford. Perhaps one thing leads to another though, not having a big squad leads to less rotation, which leads to a smaller squad? Most of you who took part in the Chelmsford game like to rotate, and of course everyone wanted to bring in their players, so it lead to a large squad.

I think part of the game is adapting. Sir Alec rotates at United because of the size if the club, number of fixtures etc. it's all about the long term. Chelmsford we had a club built for the long term, and even with finances cut off, we would have succeeded forever if we kept such a classy squad happy. Having just a really strong first team doesn't make that as guaranteed.

Fili's tactics worked for a season, but how many players would have lost motivation, got angry etc down the track.

I don't believe it's about being rotating manager or not either. I'm currently managing Marconi in the NSW state league, and I basically only change my first eleven due to injury or suspension.

Surely adapting to the game is part of being the best manager?

Sure, but in his defense he had the most dominant season of any of us and would have probably continued that if he played the next 10 years. The reason we're unhappy is because he benched some of our favorite players, not because he hurt the club in the long term, because clearly he didn't. If Fili continued, even with finances cut off, he could have sold Morgan and Cklamovski for probably 100m combined at least and bought young players that he liked as he continued with his rotation from last season.

I'm not so sure. I would worry that if he continued there would be loads of unhappy players-which you never get full value for, and loads of guys would never reach their peak.

Also, why was his season so much better than mine three years prior? (I haven't got the save). I thought I scored more goals, and basically had the same record. I would also have spent less. I don't think I'm the best for a second, but I think based on Chelmsford there is little evidence suggesting Fili

I think Fili's League 2 season was amazing, more so even than when you won the CL for the first time. I also think his emphatic World Cup run was incredibly impressive. His "Genius at Play" thread is also insanely impressive.

Fili, will you accept Shifty's thrusting mouth on your penis?

With squad rotations I think you can do whatever you want as long as you accomplish what you wanted and were successful. Some might grow young players and have a large squad, some may have a smaller squad with less depth, but one where the consistent playing time might make the team as a whole better.

Growing young players is the cheapest way of ensuring talent . So if you are a smaller club it's a wise way to go.

I basically just go with the rules: 25, 4 homegrown, 4 from nation, versatile backups are important. I play everyone on a consistent basis. For some it means 2 out of 3 games and for others once every 4-5 games. I'm sure everybody does something along those lines.

Haha! I'm staying out of it man!

Yeah the rules for Europe make you have a base you can't change, but anyway I always try to keep the squad short. Obviously you then get me complaining like a madman about FM's legendary injuries, but I admit it may be also my fault.

Fili, not to be offensive, but did you save and play again any of those matches? I've never seen 3 goals allowed in a full season before. The match engine generates way too many goal instances ( even against a good Porto side) for me to even wrap my head around that statistic.

Dude, this is all for fun and all, but I swear to God I don't do that kind of stuff. I reckon I'd feel terrible showing you guys screenies and bragging about something I lied about, it would defeat the purpose!

In all fairness, you guys (I think) never managed the Portuguese League, which is VERY easy...
