Should FIFA 09 PC be next gen ?

I wish people would stop using the words "next gen"... It's not like there's anything fundamentally different betweee FIFA 08 on the PC and on the PS3/Xbox 360 - the game engine is just more advanced. And it's not like you can compare fifa to PES here - yes both have upgraded their game engines recently, but the new game engine that FIFA uses is obviously more advanced than the new game engine PES uses. You can't say - "PES is next gen on PC, why can't FIFA be?" because they are not comparable.

Hopefully EA does do some major upgrades to the PC version of fifa for fifa 09.

By the way, what about EURO 2008? Surely EA are making a EURO 08 game, is there a chance that may be next-gen on PC?

I think next year won't be next-gen either because there was an interview a while back. Some one from FIFA was asked if they will stop making form PS2. That guy replied that the PS2 still has a lot of life left...

I see that my words here are taken into consideration like a flying donkey. FIFA 09 will be next-gen and developped most for PC. There will be non relationships no more between PS2 and PC. PS2 will remain the only one current-gen FIFA 09.

Mattwinter has said perfectly what I have told people in many forums: PES 2008 is NOT next-gen and you can take it by comparing PES 2008 PC (or Xbox360 because they are identical not next-gen) and FIFA 08 xbox360 and you will understand very well what we say. Next year FIFA will be a TRUE next-gen game, not a 60% next-gen like PES this year ;)

P.S. However I don't think EURO 2008 will be next-gen. Maybe a 60% like PES or maybe the last current-gen for PC. I will tell you more soon :)

Like Outsider87 said....I don't think Euro2008 will be next-gen. It's been a tendency for EA to make these mid-year games based on the original game for that year. WC06 was based on FIFA06, UCL 06-07 was based on FIFA 07, so Euro2008 will be based on FIFA08.

That being said, I don't think EA will completely strip down the PC version and make it next-gen... I doubt they will make any improvements at all...but I agree, FIFA 09 has a good possibility of being next-gen!

I''m not of EA, but I work for EA SPORTS as a managing editor (Italian teams), like at least others 100 people do, so I have obviously contacts with the Vancouver Team. Moreover I remind you that I'm staff member of FifaMania, a partner site of EA SPORTS, so we have some news :D
I ensure you that FIFA 09 will be next-gen and I think also with features never seen before in any football game. However you can easily understand that is too early to talk about the FIFA 09 features. ;)

It's really good to hear that mate but those features won't be only for PC...they'll be for the 360 and PS3 right? :(

How is it possible to have a 'next gen pc' in he first place? Will it be special pc or is it just a matter of continuously upgrading it with new components?

Like i've said before in some other posts,for me it doesn't matter so much to be next gen but to include the new tricks and any other new thing that they have in ps3 etc.Other than that,some new cinematics would be nice.I'd be thrilled though if there would be....less bugs!!

Outsider 87 do you know what is the minimum and recommended system requirements for fifa09 (pc)? just want to make sure that my pc can handle it at the time :p and oh i have complete gears of war campaign couple of weeks ago.

I have FIFA 08 for the PS3 and I must say it is a monster. It has so much going for it both graphically and from a gameplay point of view...

That is why I am a bit curious and skeptical about the system requirements...they will have to be insane...

I'm willing to bet you'd need a true gaming PC, and how many people actually have that?

Mates, instead of buying a new PC to play this game, you should do what I did and get a console...it is a much cheaper alternative...

No consoles suck.

A PS3 is very expensive and look at the games. I don't want to spend 70€ for a single game.
And whats with editing? I play FIFA to 70% only because of the editing possibilities (Creation Master, Sound Master,...).

Ok, look at it this way:

Which is a smarter buy? Buying a $1200+ PC that chances are you will have to get rid of or upgrade a great deal in 2 years or buying a $400-$600 PS3 that will last you 5+ years...all to play the same games?

And yeah, alright, so with a PC you can edit the game. But is that really worth another $600-$800 dollars?

I too thought that I cannot play FIFA because everything is bad and I must edit it. But the PS3 version blew me away. Stadiums are great, gameplay is fantastic, and the kits are very well done too...so I realized editing is pointless.

Finally, the PS3 is practically a PC...you can patch FIFA 08 through it.

Trust me mate, FIFA next-gen will be a nightmare for PC's...a console is a much smarter buy.

but for pc we can choose the level of graphic settings so i really wish that ea will provide better level of details so even 3-year-old pc can handle it tough :p
