SOPA Blackout

Megaupload made a bad error by leasing servers in the US. That gave the FBI an entrance.

The record industry should be forced to adapt or die. They are desperately holding onto cds as if they are the present. Time moves on. Any other industry adapts.

The shame is that the industry funds politician's election campaigns. Politicians are also more likely to not understand the internet. Scum.

MU was the best one for freeloaders who didn't buy premium accounts. Not the best uploader though, not that much stuff was usually on it.

Priorities...

Wish other, more misanthropic bills would get the same reception as the SOPA did. Don't have to look too far - ACTA has a much more global and deeper reach, yet the fight against it by the public isn't half as big. Not saying that SOPA isn't a disgrace or anything, it is.

I found this

Also to add to this with some things I heard is that this WILL affect people outside of US apparently they will be able to close sites in connection to US sites (or something like that) or that there will be no international division and that basically someone (like Lee) could post an illegal link on this forum and then this website would be in risk of closure, so such sabotage is truly ridiculous.

I don't like it because further down the road it will lead to more loses to our internet freedom. It's a small step and will impact the way information is dispensed on the internet. I love the fact that it's a wild jungle online right now, they obviously want to control things to put control over us.

I think we could all do with a little bit less internet freedom

So can someone tell me what exactly is wrong with SOPA?
Ask and you shall receive. I know SOPA got shelved and likely (in it's current form) killed, but as this video makes clear, this was only one skirmish in what's going to be a long running war.

Government can't control real life so they're trying to control the virtual one. What's next?

Unfortunately that's the sad true. This was inevitable and will never stop.

I find it ****ed up that the US Government could effectively enforce its own moral priorities on citizens and domains in other countries.

It's not ironic at all, it is entirely consistent with this nation's foreign policy. Unless you mean how we demand that of others.
