Happy Heats won and also that they gave Gretna the respect they deserved.

Take a Bow Gretna, that game was a 130 minute adrenaline rush.
(When Gretna scored I went insane)

Congrats Hearts!!!

The real romance came to a head in the form of Heart of Midlothian's Cup win yesterday. Now, take nothing away from Gretna, they have done admirably to reach the plateau they now find themselves on.

But they've had it all their way since day one.

The media hype surrounding yesterday's game showed little or no impartiality at all. Everyone was hoping for a Gretna 'miracle' to happen, simply forgetting that there were another bunch of gentlemen just as desperate to end their season with silverware. Yes, the rise and rise of a tiny, unknown club to near-total ascendency to the top of the footballing tree does twang on some of the heartstrings, but more in an 'Oh, that would be a good movie' way.

That's where the romance ends.

The media's, the footballing world's and just about everyone else's infatuation with 'The Gretna Story' proves that whoever stood in their way of glory were big, bad partypoopers. You see, I'm a firm believer of the phrase 'To get the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain'.

In footballing terms, Gretna are bone dry.

You see, they haven't had to put up with constant belittlement from colleagues, constant ridiculing, doubting and hatred from others in game. The media sniffing for one drop of blood at every spare moment in the hope of dragging their name through the mire just that little bit further. They haven't had to put up with managerial changes, threatens of fines and suspensions. They haven't had to put up with a band of corrupt referees desperate to put a momentary halt to the 'Revolution' by using everything in their power to give them a disadvantage.

But, we have.

I believe that true romance and true dignity are only realised when you have risen from the depths of despair, when you have picked yourself up and wiped the dirt from your face and found a way back from the labyrinth of uncertainty when it all looked doomed.

Not one person can deny that Heart of Midlothian haven't taken on these challenges and passed with flying colours time and again. Not one person can deny that Heart of Midlothian have been targeted for being a bit, let's say, eccentric, in their dealings and the way they carry out what should be 'normal business'. Not one person can deny that Heart of Midlothian have not been treated with contempt and ridiculed for trying to break the duopoly of Scottish football, for trying to fight the powers that be and not take criticism lying down.

But, most importantly, not one person can deny Heart of Midlothian the Scottish Cup. Not one person can deny us the Champions' League place and not one person can deny us the chance to stand up, tell everyone to take notice and either put up or shut up, 'cos the Jambos are here to stay.

Hearts haven't just put up with rain this season - we've put up with a monsoon and that's what makes this rainbow just that little bit brighter.

dude I love Hearts. But taking away ANYTHING (even a little) From Gretna is just laughable.

They took hearts to PKS with 3/4 of HAMDEN packed with Hearts fans. THat's almost like doing it at Tynecastle.

"They didnt have the problems we did..........waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa .waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa". Shut up. Jesus.

"Waaaaaaaa........we have too much money and talent and an over ambitious yet controlling president/chairman (whatever)........waaaa"
Common man, congrats and everything but that post was a joke.

"They dont have the problems we do!!!"- They just won the Scottish THIRD DIVISION (Called 2nd division for some reason because they think calling the 1st division "Premier League" gives it more importance :p  ). I dont care if they had 4-5 washed up players who also played in some crap SPL teams before, what Gretna did was incredible.

I said Gretna have done admirably to get where they are, and I applauded everyone in Gretna when they came on their lap of honour, no less than they deserve because it's one of the great stories of football. I felt so pleased for them when we clinched 2nd so they could get European football. BUT, do you think they've overcome any struggles along the way? What Brooks Mileson is doing/aspiring to do is on a parallel to Vlad, and yet there is no criticism. Saturday was as big a case of Heart of Midlothian vs. The World as I've ever encountered, and yet Hearts prevailed. I have EVERY C*NTING RIGHT to stick two fingers up at everyone this season who has belittled and mocked us for what we tried to do.

What the hell? Show me where I've complained about having Vladimir Romanov at Hearts. If he wasn't here, Hearts would be dead. No other alternative, dead. Do you understand that fully? He is a Godsend.

Gretna will be a Premier League club very soon. All of a sudden, it won't be such a cute wee fairytale anymore, will it? I have been in a similar position to Gretna pre-Romanov when we were the underdog many, many times against the Old Firm and in European competitions. And guess what, I was f*cking sick of the glorious defeat. I want trophies, and I want the SPL next year.

Hearts have no chance of winning the next SPL UNLESS Hearts lose out right away in the CL Qualifyers.

It's happened to an infinite amount of teams who do well 1 year and already say they are a "shoe in" for the title (IE: Recently Villarreal in Spain). But then comes the killer of all small clubs, Europe.

But SPL is different (like Hearts could prob beat 90% of the SPL even if they play 2 competitions, because frankly many of them suck). But Celtic and Rangers (who have 100% concentration on the SPL next year, the same rangers who suddenly woke up at the end of this season and didnt take Hearts' CL spot by almost a miracle (if Hearts wouldnt have beaten Aberdeen then it surely would have been over for them).

I dont know. Maybe if Ranger's plane crashes and Celtic's players suddenly go on strike for some reason, yeah Hearts could maybe have a shot.

Well done to hearts, but I can't say I particulary like them OR Gretna.

I find Romanov to be a control freak who has turned what was a respectable club, into a laughing stock off the pitch. The arrogance of some Hearts fans I know is also shocking. That said, I admire players such as Hartley and Pressley, because of their attitudes.

I don't like Gretna purley because they've bought success. All this 'fairytale' stuff is guff. Look at how much money they've got - they can afford to sign SPL standard (well, roughly) and pay them high wages. Compare that to other teams in the second division. I support Ayr United, and we've had to sign almost all juniors (bar McAnespie, Lowing, Veraille and McGeown I think). You can say I'm being bitter, but it's true. They might have been in the 2nd div at the time, but due to their oodles of cash in comparrison to other Scottish teams, they are more than that. Hopefully they'll get a good kicking next year to team them a lesson.

BUT I will praise Gretna for off of the pitch stuff. What Brookes Mileson is doing in the community is fantastic, and it's refreshing to see a football team take an active role in the community. However, it's not sustainable. Mileson won't be here for ever and Gretna is too small a town to be able to cope.

Glossing over the fact you're a complete fanny, I want to ask you about this link in your profile.

http://www.freewebs.com/seeno22/stpetershearts.htm

What the **** is that all about? And have you been sued by Hearts yet?

hehe, blame that on Frank (Scottish friend of mine who's father is a mad Jambo) (that site is managed by 3-4 guys. I do only the movies/articles and Uruguay part)
Dont think he's updated in like 1 year though.

lol, Yeah Im sure Hearts will send their lawyer any day now :funny: :D

(I was actually thinking that the post I typed a few hours back might have seemed a little serious since I think you havent read my posts to know when I am angry or not......so yeah, When Im mad, I usually just go on a "Swearing spree", but anytime it seems like Im joking, I almost always am).

Depends, the players go into near by towns to recruit fans. If that works, and it might (tho QotS are a well supported side) they could get enough money to float. If they can become regulars in Europe that money would help alot.

But Mileson's health is awfully fragile.

Its a long shot but it could happen. Who knows maybe they could build a decent stadium one day, gain success and start a growing fan base with maybe a succesor to him being the future president.

But I'd think that their success will end by the time they make it to the SPL. (they'd be mid table at best as RAngers/Celtic/Hearts would be too much for them to even think about challenging the title.

Aye, but Gretna has a really small population. Do you think people from Dumfries and Stranraer, who already have a team to support, will want to travel all that way to watch?

Gretna are romantics, but they need a dose of realism.

If you think the Pieman era was ever respectable then you are a simpleton.
