Why must Federer make it so hard for himself time after time.

Should be an exciting final if Soderling played the way he did against Gonzalez, i really hope Federer doesn't falter now its really now or never.

Federer cant win the finals if he plays like this!! That Soderling guy is making some scary shots!! Although I believe the 9-0 record will be there in the back of his mind.... but the thing in favour of him is that he has nothing to lose whereas Federer has the pressure of history behind him!! its looks very tight from Federer's side!!

While I was watching Gonzo match earlier, the difference between Gonzo's frequent sitting duck BH slice & Fed's usual deep BH slice was apparent. Gonzo's short BH slice was killed by Soderling. When Gonzo occasionally made a deep BH slice, soderling was on defence. From then, I wanted Soderling to win the match so that Fed' deep BH slice would do the job in the final. But watching Fed struggling to put a deep slice against Del potro wasn't giving any comfort.

Anyway, he just booked his 5th straight GS final because,

Dropshots. From every corner of baseline. Treat to watch.

Serve would've been great against anybody else, but you have to credit JMDP for returning it superbly. I wonder why Fed continued to neglect 'T' but rather went for wide serve, which was efficiently returned by JMDP.
Baseline game is still shaky. But I guess winning first set would've made the difference.

And finally, credit to JMDP. He basically did to Federer what Federer usually does to his opponents: Mixing up. He mixed his game, serve, & approach. Amazing!!

In nutshell, Fed returned poorly, was returned superbly, was outrallied & still made one step closer to the tennis immortality. May be Tignor was right? The name Roger Federer did it for the real Roger Federer?

Over to final: Regardless of today's BH slice erratica, still his great weapon against Sod would be his famed deep-BH slice & his usual mixed-up game.

And for those who think Soderling has nothing to lose.
I dont agree.

Perhaps He has everything to lose because he might never reach a final again
He is having a dream run at the French open, defeated Nadal, won against Gonzo being 4-1 down in 5th Set, now in final
Once in a life time opportunity for Him
So I think he will be under lot of pressure. But considerably less compared to what RFed will be under.

No doubt Federer has tremendous amount of pressure on him. But he knows how to handle it. Federer has faced so many history making events before. But still it's much more compared to what the Swede will be in.

Cant wait see him lift french open trophy. And Create History, as pointed out by Xifio, which he thoroughly deserves.

Federer won 14th Grand Slam title. This day Federer unblocked himself mentally and I'm sure he will win a few titles more, even reach more than 20 GS titles. Simply the best.

Disappointing final. More screaming than playing good tennis. Nevertheless the title will remain in the Williams family show-case.

Federer will beat Roddick!
Roddicks not been playing very well to be honest. Its only his serving that helped him get to the final.

The last set was amazing! Andy has never been so close to beat Roger on grass. Today he was the better player on the pitch but lost. I really feel sorry for him.

Nail biting stuff right to the end.Credit to Roddick he gave it his all but the King of Grass reigns supreme again.

On an occasion like this, you(the winner) should spend more time complementing the loser....that is if you have any class. Instead, Federer pulled out the ultimate insult by wearing his Carlos*et with the number 15 on it. Federer showed no class at all! Roddick was a better loser than Federer was a winner.

Plus, he only won because Nadal was not there......

Federer is one of the most over-rated athletes of all time, if you ask me.

He's played during an era when the men's field is AS WEAK AS IT'S EVER BEEN! Hewitt(easily overpowered), Safin(mentality), Roddick(lack of all-round game)....combined have less than 6 Grand Slams between them and were the main challengers to Federer at the start of this run. And none of them could consistently challenge him....NONE! In the last few years, Nadal and Djokovic have emerged as threats and they too have been very inconsistent on all surfaces, although Nadal is improving. Nalbandian???...HAHAHA!!!!

Seriously, I can't name one half-decent threat that Federer has faced on a consistent basis. Let's compare that to Sampras: Becker, Stich, Agassi, Courier, Rafter....ALL won atleast one grand slam and Agassi and Becker EACH won more than 6. Goran Ivanisevic and Richard Krajicek also won a GS each. There were ALL consistently challenging him and were not intimidated. Sometimes, when I watch Lleyton Hewitt play, I just get the feeling that he's lost the match before he even plays the first point! Ditto for Roddick and Andy Murray....they just don't have the consistency that Sampras' opponents had.

There's no depth in the men's field. Federer hasn't faced any consistent challengers in GS finals.....other than in a few finals with Nadal, and those have been in the very recent past. He hasn't been pushed hard enough consistently enough.

Its not his fault that he makes the rest of the field look ordinary.

I'd say they're ordinary to begin with, so he just has to show up and it's game-set-match Federer. Roddick has played him 21 times and has LOST 19!!! The epitome of ordinary!!!

I entirely disagree with you.

I don't care.
