Terry named England skipper

Gerrard is simply, in my eyes, more influencial. Fantastic player who can decide games whenever he pleases. Best midfielder in the world.

yeah he is the best midfielder and in my eyes the best player in the world even better then ronnie BUT thats when he plays for liverpool. He isnt as affective for england because him and lamps struggle to play together and that is why i think he got vice-captain adn i think gerrard should be very dissapointed as terry only made his debut 3 years a go and also has a bad disicpline record compared to gerrards and this is extremly important as the england captain is a imbassador for englissh football

I feel that JT is more of a leader than Stevie G, defenders usually make better captains anyway.

Terry and Gerrard are both great leaders, however ,i feel the best captains often lead the team from the back because they can see the game unfold in front of them.

maybe now there wont be beckham in the team and hargreaves will play the defensive midfield role, pulling gerrard or lampard to the right side (im guessing gerrard), allowing him to play freely with owen and rooney (both properly fit) up front. i dont see beckham playing too much more, i think he should retire from international football now...

I still think Gerrard and Lampard will both play together in a 4-4-2.

Anyway, I'm fairly happy with John Terry as captain, and what he did was years ago. That won't effect his performance on the pitch at all now, so there's no need to bring that up.

The right decision I feel. A captain in the same mold as Adams, Butcher or Moore.

Now that the YES MAN has gone, we might see an actual team instead of just keeping the big names happy: Hopefully Lampard will be dropped in the next few games, giving Gerrard the same kind of free role he has for England. Hargreaves also needs and deserves a proper run in the first team after what he showed against Portugal.

Terry's a good pick. Sometimes the best man for the job isn't the most influential in the team. Our own JZ isn't as "loud" so to speak, as Mihajlovic, but with his calmness, poise, and his example on the pitch he does a great job in leading the others.

I also agree with the "defenders are good captains because of their better viewpoint of the pitch" axiom.

Why drop Lampard to accomodate Gerrard? Gerrard has NEVER been very impressive for England, wheras Lampard has. Gerrard might be a great player for Liverpool (actually he is the only great player they have), but he dissapoints every time he plays for England.

The reason that Lampard and Gerrard have not gelled together is not because of any failings of the 2 players. The reasons for the pairing not working was purely down to Svens inability to motivate and direct both of them clearly. Maybe NcClaren will do a better job in that respect. To say that the best 2 midfielders in England CANNOT play together is pure crap. Used properly they can both compliment each other.

As for Terry for Captain. He consistantly plays at the top of his game for England. Gerrard does not, and if it takes the captaincy to make Gerrard play like he does for Liverpool, then he obviously is lacking in motivation where England is concerned. His appearances in an England shirt have been more dissapointing than impressive. Hopefully now that Sven has gone, we will see a rejuvinated Gerrard.

Lampard was worse than poor at the World Cup, whereas Gerrard seems to be coming into his own for club and country. Lampard can't justify a start in the team after his performances at the world cup regardless of the system.

forget the World Cup man. Everyone was s.h.i.t at the World Cup. Gerrard has never proved himself at International level ever. Before the World Cup Lampards record for England was fantastic. Gerrard's?....not as good.

Lampard....11 goals in 45 appearances.
England fans, voted to make him the Official England Player of the Year 2004 and 2005.

Gerrard.....9 goals in 47 appearances.
Pretty close as far as goals are concerned. Definately NOT a case of Gerrard achieving more than Lampard though.

Yes, Gerrahds wouldve been better, but speaking english is a requirement for the job (C)

haha

Gerrard would have been a better choice.

You can't go wrong with these two though.
