Terry named England skipper

I think that it was pretty obvious that Terry would become captain. He has really been performing well consistently for England, where as Gerrard hasn't. He seems a better leader to me as well.



But one thing, please please please, no "finally Hargreaves can get his chance to start" comments. He played in almost every game for England this year and impressed only in one game, where the whole attack played really bad. He got one chance right, but how many before did he waste? Until Owen repeats his Portugal performance 5 more times in the next 7 games, i will not be convinced that he is good enough to start.

yes he played in almost every game .... BUT Sven used him as a bit part player, putting him in for ten minutes here and there most of the time. He also would play him all over the shop, Right Back, Right Mid, Left Mid ... crazy when you look back. And Hargreaves took all the stick, kept playing well for Munich and when given his chance in his real position from the start and for a full 120 minutes he was ... I have no words, best one man abnegation and performance I've seen in a long time.

Okay there might be a slight overreaction, but he's more than earned his chance to get a proper run in the first eleven. ( he was voted England player of the tournament by the way :funny: )

I don't mind Terry's selection as captain. For me, it had to be either Terry, Gerrard or possibly Robinson. Robinson's not a huge name player but he is very solid and, to go along with some of the support for Terry, the goalkeeper has the best view of the game on the pitch.

Maybe I'm just suggesting it because I'm a keeper myself, who knows?

Has anyone said he is? Cannavaro is nearing the end of his career and Terry hasn't even reached his prime yet. By the way the WC didn't prove anything other than Italy were the best team during the tournament. It's stupid to compare individuals on their WC performance.

Aye this thread is not about who is better than who, Its about Terry being named England captain and IMO he is the better choice out of himself and Stevie. Hes more vocal. Reminds me of Tony Adams when he was captain
