Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has revealed manager Arsene Wenger reacted to the Gunners' first half performance with a fit of rage during the interval at Anfield.

The north London-based outfit came from behind to beat Liverpool 2-1 on Sunday, but had finished the opening 45 minutes behind, leaving the Frenchman furious, according to Fabregas.

“The boss screamed at us like I've never seen before,” he told Sky Sports.

“He was really disappointed in the first half and we were not at our best – that we didn't deserve to wear the Arsenal shirt.

“We played like that, and I think that gave us a boost. I think he was right, we were not good in the first half, we were not up for it and in the second half we turned it around and I think we played one of the best second halves of the season.”

Thomas Vermaelen revealed that he was also shocked by Wenger's half-time team talk.

“I've never seen him before like that. I think we just reacted very well,” said the Arsenal stopper. “The first half was really bad on our side, second half, we put some pressure on them and you see the result.”

Asked if he thought Liverpool could have had a penalty after a William Gallas challenge on Steven Gerrard, Vermaelen was absolute in his opinion, while he revealed the win was a big one for the club.

“No, I don't think so because the ball was already miles away,” said the Belgian.

“For us it's very important [the victory] because we close the gap a little bit now, we're back in the race now.

Fabregas was impressed by the way Liverpool closed down his side's play in the first half.

He added: “I think that put a lot of pressure on us in midfield.

“They didn't let us play as we like but we imposed our game in the second half that was very important.”

The Arsenal captain also praised Andrey Arshavin's goal and reflected on the message the result sends.

“[The goal was] Unbelievable but I'm not surprised, I see him every day in training – I know what he can do. He is a special player and we need him badly,” said Fabregas.

“There is still a long way to go, but the Premier League season is more open than ever and anyone can beat you, you can beat any team and I must say – I like it that way."

Maybe his say could be a motivator for them (Or Glen Johnson's own goal). Play at the second half was completely different from their play at first half.

Yeah and Arshavin's goal was well taken wasn't it. I think the Liverpool fans would probably agree with me now though, that Howard Webb is without a doubt a joke of a referee.

Good win for the Arse, and certainly makes the league title race more exciting. Wenger looked pretty chuffed at the end.

It seems like every season Arsenal are a couple of matches behind the rest of the EPL. Is this just my imagination? It's always bothered me a bit that the league is so out of synch. La Liga only gets off track under special circumstances.

Because England has two domestic cups, plus European competitions.

That kiiiiinda makes sense. But that doesn't explain why Arsenal and Man City are the only teams that have played 15 matches. Are they the only two in four competitions?

On a side note, when will the Carling Cup die away? What a weak competition.

It won't. It's actually possible to play in three domestic cups and Europe, if a League Two team won the FA Cup they'd play the next season in the League, the Europa League, the FA Cup, the League Cup, and the Football League Trophy.

It happened in Scotland, actually. Queen of the South and Gretna both did it. They lost the Scottish Cup final but both times the winning finalist had qualified to the CL (Rangers for QotS, Hearts for Gretna) so the loser went to the UEFA Cup. The next year they played in the Scottish First Division, The Scottish Cup, The Scottish League Cup, and the Scottish Challenge Cup.

Dunfermline did it too, but they did it a different way. They got to the final of the Scottish Cup and were beaten by Celtic, who qualified for the CL so Dunfermline went to the UEFA Cup. Dunfermline got relegated that season, so they were in the First Division while playing in Europe. I think some team from Iceland beat them.

dude I hope you're moaning because your two (unbalancedly, I hope and assume) favourite clubs are meeting again, not because you fear Le Arse :rolleyes:
