pede54 said:That as maybe mister, but Arsenal consistantly play with no English players and choose Foreign players over English week in and week out .We at Chelsea do have English players as the backbone of our team whereas Arsenal do not have any plans to do a similar thing......smartass......
Vagegast said:Pede, I i think your sentiment is well-intentioned but why spend money on over-priced Englishmen when you can players get players like Henry for a bargain? Let's see: Van Persie, Anelka, Kanu, Ljungberg, Petit, Anelka, Vieira. All foreign bargains.
On your side of the argument? Jeffers.
The only English club that could afford Sean Wright Philips? Arsenal were interested, but only Chelsea could afford him. Trust me, Arsenal would have a lot more English players if they weren't so overhyped and expensive.
The only adjustment that can help produce more good english players is scrapping the 90-mile rule.pede54 said:yeah good points indeed .I appreciate that, but i have seen so many promising English kids(forget Jeffers ok :funny: ) who,by their own words felt that they were overtly discouraged at Arsenal in favour of foreign, particularly French, youngsters.English kids who have been forced to leavr the club and feeling very bitter about it.Even as new laws are introduced into the game to encourage the use of home grown players at each club,Arsenal use the loopholes in the rules to bring in even younger kids from abroad. So when they eventually get registered, they will qualify as home grown players. The whole point of the new rules is to encourage the use of ,for instance,English players in the English leagues.Ideally there should not be any loopholes that can be exploited, but there are,but clubs could still enter into the spirit of the new rules and nurture some kids that were actually born here.I am sure that Arsenal will not be the only club who take advantage of the loophole by the way.
IceBlu said:At least Arsenal aren't like Inter who can afford any player out there but choose foreign talent over Italian. The other day they didn't have a single Italian player on the field. Today they had one against Ascoli. Now that is shameful.
Its like this. Arsenal aren't going to buy an Englishman unless he is good. With the press and scouts keeping a close eye on every English player out there, the good ones start attracting attention from all over and by the time Arsenal can step up and make an offer, they are handed contracts by other clubs who can afford to pay much more. Instead Arsenal look abroad and get someone cheaper and just as good if not better. Its not their fault now is it?
Also, when money is an issue, buying a foreign player relatively cheap is less of a gamble. If it works, like it has so many times in the past then yay.. if not go shopping again. Arsenal cannot afford to be stuck with a 30 Million dollar dud.
