Lamps is not a defender,but for a midfield player he does a good job as a forward too.Henry is a forward and that is ALL he can do.Granted he is good at his job,but he is impotent anywhere else on the field.As i said before the two cannot be compared because they are 2 completely different players ,playing in 2 completely different positions.
Sure France won the world cup 98 (7 years ago)but to be fair Henry did not have a lot of input into that squad at the time.the forwards were Youri Djorkaeff , Ibrahim BA ,Patrick LOKO, Christophe DUGARRY and Kluivert.Henry was on the bench sometimes, and scored one penalty,in a shoot out with Italy in the quarter finals.Not a big influence on their world cup win was it? He got a medal as part of the squad.
Same with Euro 2000.He scored 3 goals in the group stages and thats it.They even pulled him off in one game for Anelka,who scored instantly.We are not talking about past history mate,otherwise we might as well bring in other players with a much better career history than Henry.Sure he has scored important goals,but he has also NOT scored important goals as well.I like the way that you mention all the positive games in Europe but fail to mention the games when your lot looked poor,inept and outclassed.Listen ,Henry is a great striker.Nobody is denying that,but unfortunately one good striker is not enough.He can't do it on his own. You need to be objective to put over a fair argument but you do not do that.Too much Arsenal bias mate.......

Listen, i know henry has negatives I was just balancing up your argument. At the end of the day your the one who is saying "Lampards the better player hands down"

I am not debating he scores loads of goals in fact nor am i saying he is much worse than henry. Of course hes been a great player over the last 2 seasons. I even like the way Lampard plays. And of course hes one of the best midfielders in europe. Just like Henry is the best forward in the world (IMO).

I dont understand what you mean by our midfield doesnt benefit from henry in the same way... do you mean the amount of goals he scores?? or the amount of assists he gets which is more than Lampard by the way.

Pires scored more goals than lampard this season, does that make him a better player than lampard right now???

Ogsimon....you are still talking about goal count man.....and that is not the argument.I just revert to my original statement in answer to someone elses comparisons of Frank and Thierry.....you cannot compare a midfield player with a striker.As for those two.They are both the best that you can get.

I was using henrys goal count purely to show that he is a great striker. I did not intend it as a comparison to Lampard. It just pisses me off when people go on talking about he doesnt deliver in the big games.

Oh and soz if I have you wrong- your statement that lampard was way better than henry must have been a product of your trademark humour and sarcasm.

Chelsea failed to beat Arsenal when Arsenal started a midfield of Pires - Fabregas (17 years old) - Flamini (Horrible) - Reyes (Inconsistant). To top it off, Manuel Almunia was in goal.

Explain, if he's soo damn good, why couldn't he beat them?

And Henry DOES benefit Arsenal's midfield, he draws in defenders allowing Pires to score so many goals.

Mind you, Pires outscored any Man Utd striker, from midfield.

Bobby, I tread carefully around your posts, wary of the sarcasm that usually acompanies them. But here, I fail to see any. Firstly, they should have won that game, no question, and if Grahme Poll had any balls, they would have. Secondly, from what little I have seen of him and the way people in this thread talk about Flammini, he cant be considered horrible at all.

That loss I cannot blame on Lampard failing in any capacity. Chelsea, after getting over the jitters of the first two goals, controlled the second half well, and had Robben been able to finish (he looked menacing among your defense) they would have won that game.

The early goal was the teams collective fault, the second goal was their collective fault as well as, in my opinion, the refs. You could see the team was visibly tense playing against a team they had to break a league "curse" against, but it shouldnt have been that way.

we lost but at least were not cursed. i have to say we played an ok game. i was very mad at the back,especially when they left senderos alone like that,we should of known better. but i did like the little incidents,cesc on a little rampage and then lauren with the kick to the back of the knee and of course lehmann getting into it,he always does. but i was very impressed with hleb, i think hes really great and he should do very well this season
