Arsenal are on the verge of signing 17-year-old Dutch starlet Vincent van den Berg, according to reports from Holland on Friday.

The Heerenveen midfielder has met with Gunners boss Arsene Wenger as well as compatriot Dennis Bergkamp and has been offered a contract with the North London club.

Despite van den Berg having also had the option to sign a deal with the Frisian club he has set his heart on a switch to the UEFA Champions League finalists.

The former Feyenoord prospect is ready to sign a deal and will no doubt hope to follow in the footsteps of ex-de Kuip star Robin van Persie at Arsenal.

Van den Berg, who left Feyenoord's Academy to join Heerenveen two years ago, has caught the eye after representing his country at youth team level.

The exciting prospect was a member of the Dutch side who achieved a third-placed finish in the Fifa Under-17 World Championships in Peru last October.

we have to keep cygan. to let him go would be a disaster :kader:

there's very few out there who site on the bench the whole season without cribbing all the time.

cygan's scored more goals than ljungberg in the premiership :jap:

Well... Rosicky certianly made an impression.

I think he'll do well. He seems to have that engine which Hleb has, and looks solid enough in defense. And well his shot... I think you all know how good that can be.

Arsenal are interested in the Mexican national team left back defender Carlos Salcido, what do you guys think, if you seen him play at all that is, lol?

I don't think we'll be going for a left back. Ashley Cole seems set to stay for another season at least.

And Freddie helped Sweden qualify... by scoring their last minute winner today. Hopefully he'll score for us next year!

He can also play as a CB as well so he could help them there if they really are looking at him.

Reports in Brazil have linked Arsenal with a substantial bid for Argentine defensive midfielder Javier Mascherano.

At just 22 years old, Mascherano is already an integral part of the formidable Argentina team that look set to star in this years World Cup with a 6-0 victory over Serbia & Montenegro. Whilst the likes of Messi, Riquelme and Tevez provide the flair for the South Americans, Mascherano is the engine room and Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger believes the freedom Mascherano gives his talented team-mates to attack could translate to similar success for Arsenal.
The combative midfielder joined Corinthians in 2005 from River Plate despite considerable interest from several European giants including Internazionale, Real Madrid and more recently Chelsea.

However it appears Arsenal has beaten them all, despite a technical relationship that Chelsea share with Corinthians as the player dubbed ‘the next Makelele’ made it abundantly clear to officials at the Brazilian club he’d prefer a move to Arsenal. In addition Brazil international Gilberto Silva could be lined up for a move the other way making it look increasingly likely that Arsenal hold all the cards in the race for the players signature.

Defensive midfield has been a problem position for Arsenal this season with their Captain Patrick Vieira sold to Juventus last year and Gilberto Silva has come in for criticism when faced with more physical opposition in the Premiership. After being linked with moves for Tottenham target Didier Zokora and Yaya Toure - Ivorian team-mate to Zokora and brother of Kolo Toure – it appears Wenger has now made his decision.

Having monitored the player since his early career at River Plate, Wenger was driven to bid in light of Argentina’s new found World Cup favourites tag believing the player’s price could sky rocket further should he lift the World Cup. The precise value of the bid is at present unknown but the fee is likely to be in excess of double the $15 million USD that Corinthians paid just a year ago. The fee may be reduced if Gilberto Silva is included in the deal although it’s possible Silva may favour a move to Spain

Source?

I see two possible reasons he would pick us over you guys. First, it would be Heinze's influence. Second, first-team football. I'm sure he would have a look at the Arsenal squad, Fabregas, Rosicky, Gilberto, Diaby, Flamini? Will I get to play there? Our squad is in need of a proper midfielder which I'm sure the whole world would have heard about.

Meh, not bothered if we don't sign him. We were never really in the race.

I'd like to see Djorou in midfield, DMC, it's his original position.

if theres one player we have to sign this summer its Torres. to hell with adebayor, hes not good enough. i saw both of spains games, and i thought torres was overrated like 99% of all the other early-20s players out there before seeing him but damn is he good. henry + torres = 50 goals a season. we gotta make a 25mil pound offer, and go up to 30 if it takes that

Torres its very good for playing counterattack, but not for a offensive style like Barça or Real madrid in example.

I dont want Torres, I dont want to lose Van Persie. He is a great player but a touch overated plus is price is going to be inflalted from from the World Cup id prefer to give Van Persie a chance

The only reliable DM Arsenal have is Gilberto, so there wouldn't be much competence.

---------Cesc--Mascherano-------
-Hleb--------Rosicky--------Reyes-
--------------Henry---------------

This said, I still hope we can bring him to Madrid :p

Well Wenger's denied the stories.

Now just sign him up for 1009685 years. So he'll stay a club that respects him, not a circus with presidents or some crap like that where you get no power and they sack you if you drop the wrong player.
