Chivu launches Roma attack
Monday 18 April, 2005
Cristian Chivu has raised doubts over his Roma future after criticising the outfit for a "disastrous" season.

The Romanian, who is a reported transfer target for both Inter and Juventus, has failed to commit his future to the club after a heated media conference on Monday.

"It has been a disastrous season but don’t ask me whether I am staying or not," said the left-back. "There is nothing certain in life. All that I know is that I have a contract here.

"If the club could give me guarantees then it would be simpler to make a decision but they have been absent so far.

"As they have been of late surrounding Matteo Ferrari. He’s been heavily criticised in these weeks but the club haven’t defended him."

The former Ajax player joined the outfit when they were real Scudetto contenders but he now fears that they even risk the threat of relegation.

"From now on we need to look over our shoulders because we are in danger of going down," added the player who scored in the 2-1 loss against Reggina.

"It is tough for a player who is used to winning to continue on this road. We need a project and require balance."

Roma have had four coaches this term and Chivu believes the loss of Fabio Capello in the summer was a major blow.

"Everything has happened this season," he added. "The first problem was that we lacked a leader. Last year we had Capello who helped with this but then he left."

Chivu also seemed to question the tactics of caretaker boss Bruno Conti, for continuing to simultaneously field Vincenzo Montella, Antonio Cassano and Francesco Totti.

"We play with a trident attack and that causes us to struggle in defence," continued the international.

"However, I respect Conti’s decisions. He is an important figure at this club and he can still do a lot for the future."

he must mean the disastrous season that he took 9 months off of because he decided to get hammered and play beach soccer, so he could break a bone in his foot.

It's on every site. Chivu says he wants to win because he's a winner. Media says that Inter and Juve want him. Choice is easy IMO. :rockman:

Cassano Says He Wants Roma Stay
4/21/2005 5:47:00 PM
Antonio Cassano tried to calm down a group of furious Roma fans this afternoon by revealing he wants to stay at Roma next year.
“I came out to talk to you guys because I want to stay here, if not I could have pretended as if nothing happened,” Cassano told the ‘tifosi’ who went to Roma’s Trigoria training ground to confront the team following yesterday’s disastrous home loss at the hands of Siena.

“Don’t listen to the rumours, its not true that I talk to Capello,” he added.

Cassano is currently in contract renewal talks with the Roma management, but if these fall through he is expected to sign for Juventus.

Also De Rossi and Mancini went to speak with the fans who are extremely worried by Roma’s situation.

The Giallorossi lost six of their last seven games, collecting just one point at Udinese.

They now sit only six points above the relegation zone.

Totti faces lengthy ban
by Nadia Carminati - created on 21 Apr 2005

Francesco Totti could face a lengthy ban after being shown a red card as Roma slumped to a 2-0 defeat at home to Siena on Wednesday.

The Giallorossi icon was dismissed after slapping both Igor Tudor and Francesco Colonnese, as well as kicking out at the latter Siena stopper.

The Italian Disciplinary Commission should review TV images before disciplining the 28-year-old, and for this reason it is expected that Totti will incur at least a three-match ban.

His undisciplined display could not have come at a worse time for the capital club as they have endured a terrible campaign so far and are placed just five points above the relegation zone.

In their remaining six fixtures Bruno Conti's side face games against teams who are either struggling for salvation or fighting for Europe, and after losing six of the last seven games they are in serious danger of the drop.

This unfortunate indiscretion is not Totti's first in a Roma shirt, and could stem from his frustration at the problems that the club face.

Speculation in Italy now suggests that, following the controversy, Totti is ready to consider his future at Stadio Olimpico.

Well we know Montella is staying....Cassano looks like he wants to stay, but what about totti...hmm

No...totti shouldn't stop to do this mistakes. Euro 2004... Roma-Bayer Leverkusen and now Roma-Siena... no.. he is too nervous, he can't show to be a great player in this way. I'm disappointed that one of the best italian player continues to fall in this stupid things

Regretful Totti strikes back
Tuesday 26 April, 2005
Roma’s Francesco Totti has apologised for striking Francesco Colonnese in the Siena defeat but insists he was provoked.

The captain struck at out the defender in an off the ball incident which cost the Italian a five-match ban.

"I know that I made a mistake and I apologise for what happened," he told Roma Channel on Tuesday.

"But to hear unrepeatable phrases which affect your private life is not a nice thing. I’m paying the consequences but I think it is right that those who provoke are also punished."

Although Totti concedes that he was right to be handed a suspension, he rates his ban as extreme.

"My gesture was not one of a captain and it wasn’t the right example to set youngsters," continued the No 10. "I shouldn’t fall in such traps.

"It is right that I am forced to pay for my actions but the ban I was given seems a little excessive.

"I don’t know why I am the only one who has to pay when I make an error. Perhaps I am looked at differently because I am a Roman and a Romanista."

He continued: "I have never permitted myself to insult another person. I can accept normal fouls but I reacted to ‘heavy’ words."

Totti has already missed one game but his club are lodging an appeal in an effort to have his suspension reduced.

This isn’t the first time that Totti has reacted on the football pitch. He was banned at Euro 2004 after he spat in the face of a Danish player during Italy’s opening fixture.
