Italy register Euro 2012 bid

Italy are one of ten nations to have registered their interest in hosting the 2012 European Championships.

Italy, Azerbaijan, Greece, Romania, Russia and Turkey are the six countries who have made solo bids.

Croatia and Hungary, plus Poland and Ukraine, have decided to make joint bids for the tournament.

UEFA will select a three-nation shortlist in November 2005 before naming the hosts in December 2006.

Italy have already staged the tournament on two occasions in the past, when they won it in 1968 and reached the semi-finals in 1980.

(*If Cudicini can get playing time, hes my backup. With Toldo retired and Pelizzoli forgetting how to play, hes the next best)

Defenders:

Nesta, Cannavaro, Barzagli and Falcone, Zambrotta, Chiellini, Oddo, Bonera and Cassetti

Midfielders:

Pirlo, De Rossi, Gattuso, Brienza, Maresca, Camoranesi and Totti

Forwards:

Cassano, Vieri, Gilardino, Miccoli and Montella

(* Iaquinta's form has dropped since being linked to Barca. Either way, he's not of the quality to displace any of the current forwards.)

Although Zambrotta as RB makes a lot of sense (Chiellini > Oddo and Bonera), he has never played that position.

I like Royalegend's lineup. I dont know if it can work having Totti and Pirlo on at the same time, but thats what friendlys are for.

Italy has Nesta and Cannavaro in defence, and Buffon in net. De Rossi has enough defensive qualities to be the "DM" in the formation.
