I'd say Pele, but I'm only 17 and therefor not qualified to make that statement, I wasn't alive when the greats were great.

But what I don't get is why did guys like Pele played in the US? I didn't even think they had a league at the time (I though MLS was created in the 80s).

Diego Maradona... even though he was a hand-balling cheat... He was a very accomplished, skillful player.

Pele is the undoubted best player of all time....his club career was not relevant since he won a staggering 3 World Cups in 1958, 1962 and 1970..injury/illness(I' m not sure) kept him from winning the Cup again in 1966. He was the leader of the best team of all time...the 1970 Brazilian World Cup squad.

No one can be mentioned in the same breath as Pele.

2. Maradona
3. Beckenbauer
4. Cruyff...total football..WOW,..I can only imagine.
5. Zidane....yeah I know that people say that he is over-rated but he is the best player I have seen and that is why I rate him so highly

wow, you seem to know pelé very well.

What's that supposed to mean?

Im 16 so obviously I wasnt around during the time of Pele. Im not dissing him at all, he was a fantastic footballer, im just saying... Football has changed very much so from when he was around, the game is now definately much more faster and tricks like stepovers etc are done at pace.

Ronaldinho can do a beautiful stepover, that's the difference. At the time I bet what Pele did was the best, and why not? I've seen some goals and great credit to the guy, he's a legend.

I've seen a bit more of Diego though and the guy was a genius, IMO he's better but in others, he isnt. Nobody will end the argument, at the end of the day it's just opinions and that's what this forums for :)

Pele + Diego should have a 1 on 1 haha.

At halftime of the Copa America final :P

Not only Pelé, but Beckenbauer, Eusebio, Neeskens, Simões,Cruyff, Rep, Carlos Alberto Torres and many other stars played in the NASL (american soccer league in the 70's and 80's).

Pelé played in the famous New York Cosmos.
