No way Mou leaves Madrid for Spurs, man got a status.
I think that he wants the Man Utd job, but has to wait two or three years more for Fergie to retire. So he wants to come back to England and position himself to take over, meaning he'll take the best job in England he can get, and that may just be Tottenham.

Taking over Man Utd next will be the biggest managerial job in the history of football. Being the first new manager in two decades, taking over from the most successful manager in the history of football, will be the final box ticked for Mourinho to be the undisputed greatest manager in the world. Just imagine how big the search for and appointment of the new United manager is going to be.

Or stay at Madrid
Again this is just my interpretation, but I am guessing that a) he is fed up of Madrid, the egos in the squad but more importantly the lack of support and control he is given by the board and b) he feels that in order to get the most sought after job in the world, he will be in a much better position if he again proves himself in English football and becomes re associated with the Premier League

Honestly, United would be crazy to give the club to Mourinho. They're going to want another manager to lead the club for a decade or more and support him fully even if he doesn't start out well. Mourinho would leave in 3 years.

**** if I know. Right now I think Klopp is the best candidate. Might seem strange for a typical German to be in charge at United, but remember Hitzfeld was going to be the successor 10 years ago.

Obviously a very difficult topic. I hope it doesn't go to any charismatic, unexperienced ex-players like Giggs or Solskjaer. They should first be managers for 5-10 years elsewhere.
I always fancied having Mourinho as the next manager. Following his antics at Real, I'm not too sure now. We definitely need a manager with experience in Europe and with success at the highest level, so that would rule out managers such as O'Neill etc.

I think Guardiola would be an interesting option, but he's also untested outside of Barcelona.

You want someone who's going to see United as the club he finishes his career at, but who also understands the culture at least somewhat. One that's getting floated around for Spurs that I think would do a good job for you guys is David Moyes. I bet he would be fantastic with money to spend on players. But I don't know how many real candidates there are.

The other option, I suppose, is to hire someone like Mourinho and essentially acknowledge to yourself that he's just a transition manager to take the "following the legend" pressure off the real successor. As I said, you just KNOW Jose won't stay for more that 3 years.

Yeah, him and Brendan Rodgers are guys I really like too, but they aren't ready for this kind of challenge. I'd say they're both dark horses for Spurs though.

Yeah ok, those three managers have been doing well. But they have next to no experience concerning winning the PL, competing in the CL or dealing with 30m pound players.
They would have to develop with the club and be given time, but I'm just not convinced that they would be top candidates.

I reckon it will be as you suggested, 3-5 year world class interim manager, most likely Mourinho, followed by someone like Lambert or Rodgers after climbing a few more rungs on the ladder.

I think David Moyes has missed the boat on the United job, like Martin O'Neill. Had Fergie retired when he said he was going to, they would both have been in the frame.

I dont think they'll put United in the hands of a German.

But who do you suggest then? Who has that experience, could succeed immediately in England, and would leave their current job?

I think the newer managers are maybe a little dubious, but I don't know if you can really poke holes in David Moyes. That kind of longevity is astounding at a place like Everton. I also heard a story that someone bumped into him at a fundraiser and got drunk with him, and the guy asked him how come he hadn't gone to a bigger club yet, and Moyes got angry, stuck his finger in the guy's chest, and said "Are you calling me a quitter!?"

Awesome attitude for a manager IMO.

I'm telling you man, that Hitzfeld deal was DONE. Contracts were signed. Fergie just didn't retire.

But I guess Hitzfeld had accomplished a HELL of a lot more at that point than Klopp has. Won the CL with two different teams.

Moyes is a hero but he is now Mr Everton - I dont know if he would really have the energy to start again and forge a long, successful career somewhere else, and also the board might doubt his ambition and his ability to adapt.
