I heard Santos (the former coach of AEK) is going to be introduced as the new coach of Benfica.

Yeah he is and he is looking at bring all of Greece with him. Rumours are arising in Portugal about Katsouranis, Salpingidis and Papadopoulos.

I also read about Seitaridis leaving his club in Russia and going to Atletico Madrid in Spain.

Its unfortunate, but Panathinaikos is becoming a farm club for Olympiacos. I mean, you guys train the players for a couple of years and then when their contract expires in the summer we just sign them for free.

Panathinaikos has let A LOT of good Greek players go in the last couple of years.

I think Nikopolodis is going to become a legend at Olympiacos. I agree, losing him hurt your club more than losing Kostantinou.

Plus, I also heard this morning that Olympiacos has already offered a 2 year contract to Kyrgiakos.

The main reason I think Papadopoulos might leave for Benfica is because he would be guaranteed Champions League next season. However, there is absolutely no guarantee that he would even start for Benfica.

Nonetheless, I'm sure he would look fantastic in a Olympiacos jersey.

Speaking of which, have you heard anything about when the Greek clubs will be releasing their new jerseys in the summer for the 2007 season?

I think aside from AEK (June sometime)...all teams end up releasing them in August.

BTW Nikolaidis is really doing a great job there......with no money.

Nikolaidis has done a fantastic job at AEK!
I'm extremely glad that the club qualified for Champions League.
However, I think it will be extremely difficult given that the club won't be seeded and thus could draw larger European club such as Inter Milan and Liverpool.
If they can make the group-stage of Champions League I know that is worth around $5 million + plus money made from at least 3 home games + tv revenues.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't AEK have a better ranking in Europe than Olympiacos?

I'm hoping that Olympiacos will be put in the 3rd pot in the Champions League draw.

Panathinaikos has a good ranking in Europe.
On the other hand, Olympiacos ranking in Europe is quite pathetic. However, I'm sure it would have been much higher had we advanced out of the group-stage of Champions League two seasons ago when we lost to Liverpool at Anfield.
However, all that can change with one easy draw. Unfortunately, we usually get stuck with powerhouse teams such as Lyon and Real Madrid.

I think it will all depend upon the summer signings for OSFP....if another big brazilian name comes to the port then they (and Greece) will definately gain points. However if they have refs like they did in the Newcastle match two years ago
