Messi still has the contract that he had last season as Barça B player until 2006. That contract was signed by his father and they need the sign of the mother too. If that's true, he could leave if he wanted to. Fact is that he doesn't want to leave Barça and he's had offers from Inter before. He signed a new contract this summer while the WC U-20 but that was a professional contract because he's already 18 years old and it won't be effective until Barça can inscribe him with the first team and that's impossible because he doesn't have EU passport yet. So if Barça want him to play with the first team, it has to be as a Barça B player and that way he would count as EU-player because he's in Barcelona since he's 13yo and he's considered product of the youth system. As a professional player he's non-EU. Messi's gonna get the european passport in a few months and by then the new contract will be effective. When the ******* CSD give their approval, he will be available to play with the first team in La Liga. Meanwhile he can play only in CL.

Its pretty stupid that they didnt get him his EU passport before, i mean come on he has been in Barca for a long time now but still they didnt get him the EU passport that he needs.

Sevillista just a little thing about Alves,

Did you know he ven won the World cup under 20, with Brazil? He was the 3rd MVP of the tourney.

Do you know who faced Brazil in the final? Spain.

http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/es/040105/1/1v9.html

Read and cry "Daniel Alvés, que milita en las filas del Sevilla en España, fue nombrado el tercer mejor jugador del torneo y ya ha despertado el interés de grandes clubes como la Juventus o el Real Madrid. "

Ive said even Puyol cause he usually plays as CB in Barça, not cause his quality is in doubt. BTW Salgado is a great defender; he´s getting old, thats all.

Well, whatever floats yer boat.

Dede was second and Daniel Alves third, I think that was fair. What was unfair was that they voted a local player as the best player, that sucked. I still can't believe Iniesta didn't win any of those awards. Brazilians can't complain about recognition.

Um, I'm not sure what your point is. You're complimenting one of my favorite players, so, thanks? Just because he played for the U-21 team doesn't mean that he is ineligible to play for Spain (I'm pretty sure). There was an article in Marca that said Aragones was considering Alves, so I'm pretty sure he is eligible. That said, Marca is a bullsh*t news source so they could be wrong. I've always had the impression that once you play for your country at the top level, then and only then are you ineligible to play for another country. Maybe I can find that Marca article I was talking about, I will get back to you soon.

LOL, that piece of sh*t Kanoute, according to you Madrid fans, just scored against the Brazilian national team. What a waste of money!

aw HELL NO!!!!!
No way should Alves play for Spain :kader:

1. HE's too young to commit to NOT play for Brasil
2. he played with Brasil's shirt already. You cant just put another one on, even if it was for the youth level.

Actually I found the proof

http://www.deportesevilla.com/html/ampliaNewsUp.php?id=752

I can understand why Brazilians wouldn't want to lose Alves, but I don't understand why Spain wouldn't jump all over this.

Oh, and Crusad3r, this quote is for you, who said "f*ck him" because he wouldn't want to play for Spain.

Sin embargo, el jugador ha desmentido todas estas especulaciones en declaraciones al periódico ABC, y confesó que realmente le gustaría jugar con la selección de España, que sería "un orgullo" para él vestir esa camiseta.

For the spanish speakers, here's an audio clip from yesterday's 'El Larguero' and at around 2:50 they interview Alves and he says he would play for Spain or Brazil, basically whoever calls him up first...But obviously it seems he'd rather play for Brazil .

It's understandable that he'd rather play for Brazil, but I honestly don't see that being detrimental to the team.

Kanouté seems to have smoked himself :D : "Jesús Navas is better than Robinho"

Ok Navas is a great young player, the response of Sevilla to Joaquin, but c'mon.

If Robinho scored one of the goals that Navas scored last season you'd be still celebrating.
You mean the goal that he scored against Athletic de Bilbao? That was unbelievable; best goal of the season imho. Only problem with Navas is that he's pretty fragile both physically and mentally.

Navas was the bomb in some games last year, but i heard he has some mental problems or some sh*t. maybe just media bullsh*t.

Its true, he had a strong depression, so he was separated from the team for some weeks.
