She's on TV - what do people use their TV primarily for? Entertainment. What do the network execs want? Viewers.
Now you can figure this one out - if she read the news monotoneously day in, day out in drab attire (as you seem to wish for some reason), do you think people would be entertained? Or more importantly, do you think network execs would be very happy with the inevitible drop in ratings?

Well that's just ignorant on your behalf. I don't have trouble taking female journalists seriously - gender isn't even an issue that pops into my head when watching a news report. Why does it for you?
